I recently purchased some black 450 plus string material to see if it would help with string creep on skinny strings. It does help but the black dye from the string gets on every thing. Is this normal with black or did I get a bad batch? I remember when D97 black used to be the same way but they solved the problem.

Yes both bleed but I found black 450+ really bled color,it looked like I was playing with a piece of coal when I finish making a string.I prefer dark brown in both 450+ and D97 for my dark color.I make my 6 strand strings out of 450+ in brown and green,no bleeding at all.I made one string out of the 450+ black and just sold it because it bled so much color. Both of the 450+ black and D97 black bled some color for me,I'm not sure what can be done.I just use dark brown.

Jry309, did you tell the person who bought it , it bled? Shame on you! Yes sometimes you get a spool that does this. I have never had a problem with black. Mostly reds, and blues. Try taking a rag and wiping to get off the risdual dye.

I remember Tim Cosgrove telling me about a gentleman who bought a spool of blue dacron at a shoot, and put it in the backseat of his Corvette. It had white interior! You can guess the rest. Good shootin, Steve

I have a spool of black 450+ I recently purchased from Lancaster Archery. It did not bleed at all when I used it to make strings. Maybe I was just lucky. I have had CJC make me many 6 strand 450+ strings and I never had any of the strings he made me bleed either.

Thanks for the answers guys. I really like the string material . Once you set your brace height it stays put and it seems a little faster. I tried wiping the strings but they still leech black. I don't know if I can handle that .

It works great for an endless, but twisting it up it bled alot. And yes I told him it bled and the guy I bought it from told me it bled and thats why he sold also.I just wanted to try 450+ and I thought I could live with alittle bleeding, but prefer it in brown and green,no bleeding.

Bill I switched to 6 strand 450+ strings and picked up 10 fps over fast flight strings. I shoot 6 strand strings on my 60# bows. A skinny string can make a big difference in performance in the same bow.

I made endless loop strings and didn't have a problem. I get Christopher (CJC) to make padded loop flemish strings for me and none of his ever bled. Maybe you can PM him to see what he does differntly.

Been making and shooting 6 strand 450+ padded to 10 strands in the loops for about 5 years now.  Works great on all my longbows.

John, just joking with ya! I would say if you bought the spool new, return it for another. I, like others haven't had the problem with black. The bonding process did'nt take. Also are you waxing the bundle real well, not just the loop areas. This can help hold the dye in some. Wipe the whole length of the string with a rag and wax well. With an endless, your not handling the string as much. 450+ is a great material. And also I will say as archers and builders of these materials, we are the Quality Controllers in the field. Let manufactures know of problems, they appreciate our feedback. Good shootin Steve

southpawshooter,
You only pad the loops on the 6 strand string to 10 strands total?  I have been making 6 strand D97 and padding to 12 with D97 but think I am going to try the 450+.  D97 seems to keep stretching some on my and I have to keep twisting then it seems like there is too many twists.

Frank, yeah I know I bought it used and when he told me it bleed.I thought how bad can it be but after a string I found out.I just really wanted to try 450+ without buying a new roll, they are pretty expensive.I bought two new 375' rolls in brown and green, and you get quite a few strings from the small rolls when you are making 6 strand strings.

ALDO

JRY309,
If you don't mind me asking where did you get the 450+ in the 375' roll?  I wanted to try this but didn't want to purchase two full rolls, it ain't cheap.
Thanks

Aldo, BCY will sell it in 1/8 lb. spools. You might check with Chad, LBR on here he might have it in that size. Good shootin Steve

I called BCY today about the bleeding color problem. I was told that in the manufacturing process the wax was applied before the dye had a chance to dry. They are sending me a replacement spool at no charge. I really like this string material. There is no stretch with a skinny string and there is a speed increase.
Thanks for you input....Bill

Thats good to hear about the bleeding problem,I bought the black I had used.So I just stayed away from black in both 450+ and D97 when I bought some new.
