What bow, arrow, broadhead did you shoot him with?

Was he one of your backyard Iowa bucks?

Did you get any trail camera pictures of him or was he just passing thru?

Hey guys.  Let me start by saying thanks for the compliments.  In late Oct. of last year my dad had spotted a very good buck pass about 40 yards north of one of our stands.  Over the years we have seen activity on this particular trail, but had yet to put a stand up there.  I decided it was time we get a stand up so early Halloween afternoon I snuck in and hung a stand in a big split oak about 10 yards from the trail.  The wind was right for hunting, but daddy needed to be home to do the trick or treat thing, so I snuck out of there and waited a few days until the wind was right.  At daybreak the sun was rising through the trees and I was sitting back just taking the beautiful morning in.  At about 7 am I heard some running behind and and sure enough here came a doe right by the base of my tree.  She stood about 10 yards out looking back.  Next her fawn came by (button buck) and cut to the east.  Then came the buck.  I could see some junk here and there but didn't recognize the buck in the few seconds that I had to get a decent look.  He passed by the base of the tree.  I started to draw but didn't like the steep angle or the pace that he was travelling, so I let down.  They continued on to that south standing about 50 yards away.  I felt pretty confident that they would come back.  The does fawn had seperated and was standing on the other side of a ditch.  The trail that I was expecting the deer to travel on was in the north end of the ditch.  Nearly any deer travelling east to west or vice versa, will pass by here to avoid the steep drop off.  A few minutes passed and the doe decided to make her way to the east using that trail.  The buck soon followed and stopped right in front of me with his head behind a big oak.  The rest is history.  It wasn't the booner that my dad had seen.  That big typical 12 is still hopefully running around!  I shot him with a 56# TallTines, 400 axis and woodsman head.

I think I've seen that photo before....what an all around great looking deer.  Great photo to, especially with those Fall colors.

I'm getting the itch to.  Today I started putting some arrows together for this Fall.  MFX 400's with Woodsmans.

Nope, that weekend in August is usually a bad one for me to get away.....it's a bummer for me.

Brian, Thanks for starting on my bow so soon after I ordered it. I can't wait to see the Zircote/bubinga combination and feel the resitance at full draw! Ha! Those highly figure water fall bubinga veneers should look great. I hope you get your website going so other folks can see and try-out one of your TallTines bows.
