Guys, I just aquired the St. Judes Hope bow (Black mountain)   :jumper:  .....

....and I am wanting to shoot woodies with her. I have shot woodies alot in the past but I mostly shoot carbons (Arrow Dynamics). I have never had great sucess with woodies I think partly because I dont know the shaft spine qualities of wood like I do carbons.

I am curious what you guys would figure would be the correct spine for me...I know I will need to check for myself but wanted a good starting point. I think I normally pick too high a spine with the woodies I have tried in the past.

Hope should be 47# at my 26" draw and I like to cut my arrows at 28-28.5" long.....so what do you guys think would be a good starting point?  Point weight doesnt matter to me cause I have several different heads that pretty much cover the weight range gambit that I could use once I come up with a formula that works.

Lewis,

For a 28" arrow with 145gr point I would bet 60# spine for that bow if it is center cut, if not 55#, if you want more point weignt add 5# of spine.

Danny, thanks for the tip..see I would have right off the bat got some 60-65's for these and would have probably been too stiff. I will try some 55-60's and see what happens with them.

I cant wait to get this bow...im sure you know I got it from your Brother. I had been considering ordering one for the last several months and just had read through the entire Faith and Hope thread and was drooling over the pics when I went to the classifieds and saw your Brother had posted Hope for sale!

I'm shooting cedars that spine 55-60 (58# avg) out of 45-50# recurves with 125gr up front.  They shoot well.
