Well I'm getting ready to put my order in for a new Big River bow. I know I want dirty boo limbs verneers, with nodes of course, but I was wondering what looks good for riser wood. Bacote is on the list so far! Any ideas or pictures would be great!

Thanks.

I think that Hickory makes a great riser. I have a brown and a grey one. Bacote, ebony and cocobola are top choices as well.

Macassar ebony with some figure in it and some sort of accent strip either lighter colored wood or red dyed.

I've come to believe that the keys to shooting well for me are good form, trusting the bow to do all the work, and having the confidence in the bow and myself to remain motionless and relaxed at release until the arrow hits the mark.

My T-Hawk has boo back, yew belly and dymondwood cocobolo riser. I love the look of the riser.

I may add that my coming bow will be with a black ebony riser. One of my favorite woods.

Keith, ya left out the hot peppers!

Everything goes well with bamboo. It is the archer's equivalent of the "little black dress". Not that I ever have anything to do with such things. (dresses)

Having gotten that out of the way, I have a bacote and Macassar ebony riser that I am still thrilled with. Hmm. Spell-check says that my riser is   bacteria and ebony. I expect you could get that from most any bowyer...

Once bitten by the BIg River bug there is no going back to another bow. Here is one of John's signature hybrid longbows. Bamboo limbs and Cocobola riser.
