Yes, Rod lives in BAMA where hunting and college football are second only to God.      ;)

I made the mistake of wearing my Tennessee Vols hat and had to hear more than once, "Nothing sucks like a big orange."      :saywhat:          :biglaugh:

Here are a few more pics:

The pretty little girl in front is Runamuk's best friend "Daisy".

"OK, who wants to be first on the Formaster?"

Poor Daisy...these guys never drop anything from their plate.

Here's Dick telling Ted about the time he ran away from home and became a high dive specialist with the circus.

Mr. Stump, see you at the Pope&Young with the Baron! Great bow you made!

It would have been great to have you join us Denny. Maybe next year??? I bet you could destroy one of those Form Masters! haha  So, that's why Rod live in 'Bama!

Treebeard, please tell the archery club how much we appreciated the use of the range! I wish I could have met and shook the hand of the Pres. of the club.

Rod and Emily, hope you enjoyed yourselves and got to see a little more of our state before heading home. Maybe next time I can take you down the McKenzie River in a driftboat fishing for steelhead and trout.

We live in great times as Traditional Archers, DVD's on trad archery, folks giving clinics and schools on shooting a stickbow.  Glad you guys all had a great time, and the easterners shared some shooting know-how with us westerners.

Neat that Emily took part in the clinic!  Exciting times.

Well, I'm jealous!  Glad you guys had such a good time.  Perhaps sometime soon we can kidnap Rod & Emily for a repeat in So Cal.  Perhaps when the weather cools.....gosh it's hot here now....

I finished putting my "class" page together for the HH Longbowmen last night.  Many similar pix and even some the same, as Lon was kind enough to let me use some of his.  I was kind of sick Saturday (I couldn't resist that big breakfast and let my blood sugar get ahead of me) and so didn't do a good job of keeping up with the photography.   I did get in some nice shots of some of the "bumps" in our beautiful NW land... from Seattle, you go by Mt. Ranier, Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Hood on the way to the class site.

I treated the event as the first "adventure" for Arrowl Flynn, the hunting weight bow I built for the Longbowmen.  He came to the class with me to learn to shoot right, and Rod took a moment to teach him.   Now the Longbowmen who get him to hunt with will have no excuse... Arrowl will do his part.  8^)

Well Rod and Emily are heading to the Oregon coast this morning, we will miss their company here at the Fry household. I managed to get them out Steelhead fishing yesterday as the wind calmed for a bit , Emily caught a nice 10 # fish and Rod had on a nice big 12#er only to have it get caught in another line and break off at the boat, we had Emily's for dinner YUM!
Two nicer people you will never meet.
If you can set one of these classes up in your area you will benefit beyond expectations, Runamuk was correct in his comparison, I saw him shooting at my store on Friday ( take cover) and I also witnessed the shots he was talking about on Sunday, watch out elk , here comes Tyler!
Denny , like Larry said , we live in great times and we owe a bunch of that to you guys and the Masters of the Barebow series for helping get all that started.
We will be doing another class in June of next year, priority goes to the veterans of this year but we will gladly invite new comers as we know about spots available, I have two signed up for next year already .By the way Denny , from the sounds of it Rod just may put Emily on a plane home and stay here in Oregon, at least part of the year, I doubt we could keep him out of the south during deer season, I look forward to chasing deer with him in Alabama some time

Where to start?

I just can't thank the Oregon guys enough for the hard work organizing this, with Snag just going way beyond the extra mile, Thank you David.

The new people I met and became friends with, to putting faces to old friends from here, probably some of the nicest guys to camp and shoot with, I have ever met.   :campfire:

Now, on to the clinic
Rod and Emily have a method to their coaching that has to be experienced.
Almost every one of us needs new arrows, because of Rod explaining "pull harder" and Form Master surviving, well ok Emily calling "MAN UP" helped(it only took once)
THANK YOU!! Team Jenkins

Well going out to do blind bale work now, more later

Blackhawk

Hey Kurt,

Thanks again for letting me trade you out of that '62 Grizzly!  I've already had 3 sessions on the bales with that 46# sweetie.

It's going to be tough shooting at blank bales for 2 weeks, but this ole grasshopper knows I should follow the master's advice.

(Ted, add me to next year's list as well.)

Ted, if there are any openings for next year please put my name down. I look forward to continuing with my continuation...haha

Was talking about the class with some folks elsewhere and was asked about trying javelina... great!   Unfortunately, I was pretty damn sick Saturday... a severe case of stupidity.   I'm diabetic and usually control myself very well, but that big fried up camp breakfast overcame my common sense.  By mid-afternoon I realized I was in trouble and started taking action and had things back under control by dinner, but was still pretty shaky.  I only ate a little bit of javelina and some salmon.  The javelina was delicious... flavorful pork and not very greasy.  I'd love to eat some again.  The salmon was great, too, but then, I'm a fiend for barbecued salmon, and do a really mean job of it myself whenever we have a big get together here.

I got myself together enough to do a little show Saturday night for a few of the folks, but I'm sure it was far from my best.  Louie had a lot of fun trying to get a date with Emily, though   :D

The class, was scheduled before the economy went into the portapotty, and was well worth the price.  However, Rod Jenkins is one fine human bean.  In recognition of the state of economic affairs for everyone, he dropped the price when we got there!  Those who paid in full in advance got a refund and the rest got to write smaller checks.

I think Rod did this one partly to get out here and see the country.  He loved it!

You know, one of the things that has always kind of troubled me about us archers is that we fall so easily into the trap of being willing to spend large amounts repeatedly for new bows, but rarely spend significantly to learn to shoot them well.  I've been to two classes... Bob Wesley's at Whisperin' Pines taught me a good solid aiming system and now this one has given me (if I practice!) a good solid shooting platform to make that aiming work.  I read the books and watch the dvd's, and they are good, but nothing is as effective as having an instructor right there to tell you, "No, no, that's wrong.  Try this..."  And, when you finally get it right, they're saying, "Yes!   That's it.   Now, how did that feel?  Remember that feeling and repeat it."  Then you know what you're working for, not wondering if you've got it right.

Bjorn

Wow! What a great coupla' days Adam and I had with everyone at the 'shooting clinic' really enjoyed putting a face to what was just a prior Tradgang moniker.
Emily and Rod clearly are committed to doing their best toward making sure we get even more enjoyment out of this great sport.
And it is great to know that Ted took them out for a successful whack at the Salmon run on the Columbia-good going on your catch Emily!

So, who's had their first blind bale shooting session? I got to 5yds and had a "less than"...back to 3yds.  I sure like being accountable to a routine in developing a solid shot sequence.

It's really encouraging to see folks getting involved in better shooting techniques.  I've been involved in the forums for a long time and am seeing a wonderful evolution among today's archers/bowhunters.  Accuracy....it's beautiful.
Way to go fellows, expecially Captain Dick. You are never too old.  8^).

biglegmax

I think everyone ahead of me has done a great job of telling the "TRUTH" about the weekend.
Rod reminded us, that sometimes, archers have a tendency to embelish their shooting skills. Not to say they would "LIe" or anything. I think a lot of  us really don't have a clue what good form is. Let me tell you, Rod, and Miss Emily are a couple hard driving coaches that will help you out. I know I came out of the clinic thinking...why oh why didn't I do this years ago??
If you get a chance to attend, please do, you will not be dissatisfied .

Thanks Rod and Emily!

Just a side note to the guys that were there....I have in my possession some nice camping gear that was left behind. Send me a PM, hopefully we can get this back to you soon... and thanks for the great weekend...Doug

BlueBarred

I'm still in a state of exuberant wonderment over the whole weekend. Learning from Rod and Emily was the best coaching I've ever had. And a nicer group of folks to spend the time with would be hard to beat. I think I learned something from everyone there. To all, my thanks and gratitude. If there will be another session next summer with Rod, I'm definately IN on that! Special thanks to to Snag and Ted for doing so much of the grunt work getting this event together. :notworthy:  Now I'm off to the blind bale. Form Master (lie detector) is on order! Best regards to all.

Hey Doug looks like we signed up to TradGang about the same time i am member# 10418

Just wanted to say I too had a great time meeting Rod,  Emily, and all the Tradgangers and family members this weekend.  Will be hitting the blind bale this evening for my first session and looking forward to working on my form.  After floundering around for the last four years now feel I have a solid foundation to build on to get this arrow shootin down pat.

I'd also like to thank everybody involved in putting this weekends event together.  All the Hood River locals are really good people and did a great job as hosts.

Snag thank you for coming up with the idea and coordinating the whole thing. It was a lot of fun.

Made a lot of new friends but in particular I got to know kurtbel5 pretty well as we had plenty of time to get to know each other on the drive up from California.  It was a little over 1200 miles to hood river for Kurt and I hitched a ride with him for better than half that and it made the trip much shorter that if we had driven up on our own.  Thanks Kurt.

Biglegmax,

I found out that the stove and lantern belongs to Bjorn when he showed up early Monday morning at the range to retrieve it.  I told him I thought it was being taken to Ted's.

...and thanks to you Biglegmax for your help and hospitality.  You were the first one I met when I arrived on Friday and gave me the tour.  Lon

What a great time that looks like.

There are only two states in the union I have not been to.  The first is Arkansas and I believe I will stay out of that one now just on principle   :p  .  Class looks like a good reason to go to the other which is Oregon.
