How about Hickory? You would easily make your weight and it would be stronger than D Fir on the end when you attatch your stone head. My Hickorys are a tad over 800g with a 160 pt on them.

Wouldn't hickory, in the spine weight he's searching for, be a little to heavy once he's got a 300-grain point strapped to the end?

i'm stumped as to what i should use. i want to keep it primitive so i don't want to go down the 4 wing footing path. the trouble is i don't know the spine i need till i shoot some.
