Hexhead Alternative

I really like ACE Hexheads. However, they are a little expensive. Does anyone know of a point that is similar, but not quite so much money?

Not sure how the price compares, but I'm loving the Hammer heads from 3-rivers.

I think the hammer heads are actually a little more expensive. The price per pack is cheaper but they only come in three packs (or used to)and the ace hex heads are six packs.

Hex Heads are roughly $9 for six. Hammers are nearly double that price.

I'm not sure of any commercially made heads that are comparable to Hex Heads at a lower price. You'd probably have to look at doing something home made.

There are round steel blunts available from 3 Rivers or Kustom King, which are the same price as field points. But they aren't as quite as good as Ace Hex heads. I've found they go further, are more likely to disappear in lawn, and if you shoot them through a plastic bottle, they are more likely to have feathers ripped-off due to not punching-out a larger diameter hole, like the Hex does. I suppose there's a bit more machining involved.

take a blunt and drill into the top using a 1/2" drill bit. Drill just enough to cup the end like a hex head. Not quite as good but way better than a flat blunt.

Don't think of them "Costing" you.. Think of them "Paying" you in unlost arrows because they do not burrow under the grass.

I have had both hex blunts and hammers...
I most definitely like the hammers better.

Like judos better, they are the best for not burrowing up under grass and leaves. Just wished we could get judos that weighed 175-200 grains like the hammers. So far not lost a arrow with a hammer on the end, but had to look for a little while a time or two. Judos never do that.

Ever hear of a "nutter"? Just screw two 3/8" nuts on the tapered end of your shaft. 160 grains, and they hit like a hammer.

I think he's looking for something he can screw into carbons...maybe? I don't think nutters will work for that.

I think nutters based on a full length aluminum broadhead insert might be fun to try. Never did that. Hmmm see ya in a bit.

Hex heads cost $1.62 each; hammers cost $2.00 each. They are worth the slightly increased cost IMHO.

Don't forget to add another $5.50 (minimum) to the cost of those Hammers to cover shipping. :eek:
