Dave Bulla

Hi guys.

Just wanted to post a video link of my daughter shooting her recurve that I took the other day.  She is 14 and has been shooting since she was 2 1/2 years old but never super serious about it.  I never force her to shoot but encourage her to shoot when she wants.  This year will be her first year hunting deer.  She went on an archery bunny hunt last year and missed two (barely) but had a blast and she's excited about this coming season.

Her bow is an old 68" Root Target Master that is 40# @ 28".

Anyway, here it is.

Also, here is a second one

I've come to believe that the keys to shooting well for me are good form, trusting the bow to do all the work, and having the confidence in the bow and myself to remain motionless and relaxed at release until the arrow hits the mark.

Very Cool, she can shoot! Thanks for sharing.

THE VOICES HAVEN'T BOTHERED ME SINCE I STARTED POKING THEM WITH A Q-TIP.

Dave, she has great shooting form. Surely that is not the little girl that got a self bow from Brad at MOJam - seems like yesterday.

Dave Bulla

Yup Shaun, that's her!  She sure has grown in the last year....

Obviously, the video showing the arrows hitting the target was a different set than the ones she shot in the first video.  The last three shots probably grouped about 3 inches apart max.

Think she's ready to hunt?

I plan to get her out this fall and try to set her up somewhere that the farthest she'd even get a shot is maybe a tad over 15 yards.  Maybe farther if she keeps practicing between now and then.  We'll be at mojam next weekend and she'll be shooting there I'm sure.

Feel free to comment on her form or anything you see that needs work.  I'd like her to get some opinions from people besides me.  I think her form is pretty good myself but I'd like her to practice enough to draw without raising the bow above shoulder high to cut down on movement.  I think if she keeps practicing she'll have it down by the time the season rolls around.

Nice!  I wouldn't worry about the raising the arm thing...that's an easy fix.  Look at that release...Papa Bear would be smiling I'm sure!

She is shooting very well you should be proud. She seems to really be into it. That alone will keep her shooting.

That is awesome. It is Dads you and like mine that ensure our sport will live on. If she has not told you thank you for teaching her and helping her I will. I wish your daughter and you luck while chasing deer this fall.
