I had the same injury a few years ago.  The first arrow that I shot felt like somebody stabbing an icepick 6 inches into my left shoulder.  After the first shot it was so numb I could then shoot for a little while.  It turned out after seeing a doctor that there was a slight tear in the rotator cuff. With therapy and rest it healed without surgery.  I highly suggest that you see a specialist as you could suffer permanent injury by not taking care of it.
Best of luck,

Got it.  Donnie set up my new cell and I had the OLD number.  Dialed and got a voice that wasn't yours, oppps, luckily it was a message recording!

mri friday morning.

Finally nice hooking up with ya again Stevo..hopefully this fall we can get out this fall...barring I can even shoot!

Tom Leemans

Good luck. Sounds like a bad strain, along with some dislocation. Hopefully nothing is torn, but it seems to be healing well so far.

I go through a lot of shoulder problems as well but mine are more due to work than sport injurys.I would agree with all the guys here that said see a doctor. If you did bad damage and it heals wrong you will be screwed.
Wish you the best of luck.
If it wasn't for Hillary Blackburn I may have never found my way to the woods and the water.I miss you Puppy.Love from your grandson.

Well the MRI went...with no word on how things look.  Was hoping to hear from the doc yesterday or today, ya not so much.

Shoulder is felling good..quite good in fact...havent tried drawing the bow back yet.  I'll post more as I get it.

Thanks for all the info on here and in pm's!!!!

AkDan

Finally called the doc today...I couldnt stand waiting any longer.

he called back to tell me it is a partial tear of the rotator cuff.  He recommended me to a orthopedic surgeon.

I tried drawing the bow after I last posted and shot 4 arrows, by the 4th arrow it hurt bad...ugg!   That was two days ago.....wont make that mistake again!

So I'll know more on tuesday.  Need to order my MRI film for the surgeon to look at.  Hopefully with the way things have gone there will be no surgery.

Has anyone had a partial tear?  I dont know much else about it, where or how bad it is at this point.

Steve H.

Danny, either of those two e-mails make it thru this time?

If it's only a partial tear, you can consider yourself lucky!  :D

The best way to recover from such, is to get bloodflow in the shoulder. Try doing lateral shoulder raises using only the weight of your arm. Keep going until you tire out. Slow and controlled windmills will also help you get the blood flowing. Good luck with the recovery  ;)
The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts.

Hey Dan. Just found this post. Sorry to hear about your shoulder. Man up and get it fixed. It might screw up your hunting season but it will be fine for next year. -Barring any more spills on the bike. That pain when you draw is a warning sign. Put the bow up for awhile. Hope things in Ak are going well for ya. take care. dave

Trying the two new addresses.....

Will be up Sunday night.  WIll be in Central Tues-Thurs, I believe.

AkDan

Dave, great hearing from ya, stay in touch...we'll get you up here hopefully someday SOON!

Steve, I got them, obviously  ;) .  See ya soon!   We're fishing for kings tonight, and tomorrow.   Good thing it's my left arm...I can still reel with it  :D .

Ya unfortunatly for now, my bows are hung up.  I actually unstrung my bow something I havent dont in a long time now.   I know I havent shot much this winter and into this spring but shoot I never thought I'd have to put it up completely.

The odd thing about it is, there is some pretty crazy things I CAN do and it seems to help...like dipnetting (something locals can do for salmon), even rowing my raft.   The bow is NOT one of them  :(

AKDAN, don't feel bad my right shoulder has been given me trouble for years and the other day i was putting a propane bottle in the bed of my truck when my shouder gave out and it felt like my arm was going to drop out of socket. Went to the doctors after 3 days of advil and still all the pain. I am going to get a MRI on wednesday. The doc told me after x-rays no broken bones but she thinks 75% to 100% torn cuff, not fun when season is 2 months out.

AKDAN,
A partial rotator cuff tear can become a major tear. If your orthopedic surgeon says you need a scope job to clean it up I would recommend that you pay attention. I had the same thing many years ago in the early days of arthroscopic surgery. The surgeon smoothed out the tear location and ground the bone spurs out of my AC joint in my shoulder to create more room for the rotator cuff tendons. The surgery went well. There was a period of healing and rehab exercises, but my bad shoulder quickly became my good shoulder and it was stronger than ever after the surgery and rehab.
The shoulder scope surgery is a good surgery with a high percentage of good outcomes.
I wish you luck with this.

Thanks Joe...I'll post back tuesday on what he thinks after seeing my films....

AkDan

well....saw the ortho surgeon today.

Thankfully no surgery....for now.

Said give it till dec/jan, he think's it's going to heal on it's own.  He even said to shoot my bow.  I can't quite do that one, man does it hurt!   Rowing a raft seems to help and all his test, ZERO pain.  I can still feel it from time to time, have been trying to take it easy.

Kinda bothers me though, no stretching or PT info for it...15 mn visit, holy crap that was exspensive to hear "be your own doc"....like ok thanks see ya!

AkDan

Thanks Steve for the 50lb longbow to try out!!!
