Who's got an ACS with the low wrist grip and how do you like it compared to the standard issue recurve style grip? I'm kicking around the idea of getting one, I shoot the longbows better than a recurve and all of the longbows that I shoot have a low wrist type grip.

I don't grip my bow so it is not a big deal; but once I tried the low grip I do like it better-the standard grip slides my hand up too much.
I find myself reaching for the low grip more-love the way it feels  

Shoot the ACS standard grip better than any longbow I've ever shot before. Picked up a used ACS CX one piece from a fellow Trad Ganger (who actually did the CAD design for the grip configuration of the one piece for A&H) and love the grip. It's a little thicker in the throat than the standard grip and I really like how it "settle's" into the hand. As a result I recently purchase a 14" JK Low Wrist grip. Haven't had that much time shooting it yet but so far I like the way it feels. I think I get a more consistent grip with it shot to shot. Don't have to think about it. JMHO.

Most people think of torquing a bow left and right.  It can also be torqued up and down.  Much harder to torque up and down with a low wrist.  

I've take my acs aluminum riser and filed the H out of it to make it low.

Personally I find it much closer to a standard issue recurve style grip than a traditional longbow one, and for me it fits great. Like Bjorn there I hardly grip at all and the small grip helps with that a lot.

Took delivery of my new 1pc ACS, the grip is much fuller, not sure about it as yet as it is distinctly different from the 3pc. Having said that I have been shooting the 3pc for 18 months exclusively so I'm very used to it. The 1pc is a great bow so I'm just going to have to use it and get used to the grip.

Here are the two styles we are describing

Rear is the standard high wrist 3pc; front is the low wrist 1pc; and in the middle is a riser I rasped to the low wrist shape-the remaining one will get the treatment too.

I'm use to shooting Howard Hill bows with the straight grip and the low wrist grip are closer to that for me so I like it, haven't shot one with the standard grip. The grip might be similar to my Howard Hill but they don't shoot the same LOL......stabow

The 16' Riser with the lower wrist grip worked out way better for me!  

If I were to order a New one from ACS, I'd order the grip to be cut just like their one piece longbows.. That grip is better than the 3pc take downs...

This is a pic of the Standard ST grip, the JK Low Wrist grip and the one piece grip. Bjorn's pic shows a takedown ST modified to a low wrist to match his one piece. This is a pic of the JK grip as ordered from A&H. It's close to the one piece grip but it's not a duplicate, it's a blend between the two.

 

Yellow dog-that is a beautiful riser up top in your pic; I could not take the rasp to that one. LOL!!

I just traded for a standard grip ACS and a second set of limbs. What is a JK riser?

That one is Zebrawood. When you said #2 was going to get the "treatment" I said "ouch". Keep your options open, leave one untouched.  

Bjorn, when you refinnished the grip, what did you put on it for a finnish and do you know what A&H uses originally on the riser and limbs? Thanx,...Lloyd

Gil:  The JK riser is a slightly indexed low-wrist grip.  It's deeper in the throat back to belly than the standard riser.  Or stated another way, the index is half as deep with the JK riser as it is on the standard riser.  Also, the heel of the grip is taken down 3/8 inches from the standard riser, plus or minus a little, and worked to meet the thicker throat.

This particular grip came about last year when I asked Larry at A&H if he would just rough out a riser for me and let me finish it myself to what I considered a low wrist.  Didn't want to do that, of course.  After all, A&H does have quality control and its reputation to look after.  However, Larry sent me a milled-out test riser and told me to have at it with file and bondo.  He said if he liked the prototype, he would put it into production.  The result is the JK low-wrist riser.  Larry prefaced it with my initials in recognition of my contribution to the design.  Now that's taking customer participation and satisfaction to the highest level.

Cdn Idle: I used many coats of Tru Oil as a finish-don't know what A&H uses for but it is likely not a secret.

The reason I asked was that the longbow that I'm shooting is an older BW with the LAG type grip, which is very similsr to the JK low wrist grip. I seem to do much better with it than with the higher wrist recurve type grips.
