Hello all.

While taking an injury related break from archery I ordered a longbow blank kit. It was a fun project and I would recommend it to anyone who wishes to be a bowyer but lacks the necessary equipment. This one was finished with some rasps and sandpaper (i tried a detail sander but didn't like the results).

The bow is a D shaped longbow, 64" and 41@28. The riser is dymondwood and it has walnut limbs and a bamboo core. It is a super smooth bow and easy to shoot. Once I got it tuned it only has a slight bit of handshock, more of a pleasant "thump" than anything else. Is that a raw hide strip handle? Nice job on the blank.

The handle is an artificial sinew. FIrst I wrapped the grip with some thin tennis tape and then put on the sinew just like a guide on a fishing rod. I then coated it with a thin layer of super glue to keep it in place and get rid of the wax feeling. Once the glue was dry I went over it with some steel wool to get rid of the shine.

It is actually three pieces of sinew. The top piece curves for aesthetics, and I needed to add some at the bottom because I ran out with the original thread. I like the grip as it has some texture but still allows the bow to settle in your hand.
