50/50 longbows & recurves for me. I've not hunted with my selfbow yet, but I aim to try this fall.

Self bow, give the critters a fair chance and enjoy the satisfaction of home made simple gear.

I only have a longbow, which puts me in a position where I can't decide what is best. Will let you know that I ordered a Saluki horsebow (recurve) though, so the plan is to own a few of each. When I have enough money, I'll be getting a hornbow and an english warbow too. So... I'm not gonna stick to one single type of bow!  :archer:

I personaly prefer the recurve,I have nothing against any of them but I like the line's and feel of the curve!! Jason

I shoot em all but theres something about shootin a bow you made from a single piece of wood. I like my selfbows. Paul<><
Always strive to do the right thing. Don't beat yourself down when you mess up. Ask for forgivness and keep on keeping on.

I thought i would never get a recurve then i shot a black Widow PSAX and ordered one 5 minutes later.

To be totally honest, I shoot my Schafer Silvertip with more confidence and my groups prove that fact, but the Tembo sure makes me feel all warm and traditional inside. I'm going to keep practicing with the Tembo, because I want to use it to hunt these wild Cali. pigs.

Once I saw a man shooting a recurve. I fell in love with that image. I asked him what bow he had and he said it was a Bighorn. It was a 3pc and I was in awe. Then he handed it to me and said to take some shots. I shot it well, I think it was 50 pounds, and I was on cloud 9. Well, I just had to have one. I did, 10 years later. Ive had her 10 years now and I'm still in love with her!

Selfbows 95% of the time.  I usually leave the house with 2 or 3 to bounce around with when I go shoot.  In fact, I shoot different ones all the time, but try to keep focused on a select few as hunting season approaches.  I also have a couple of classic styled longbows that I shoot on occassion as well.  I've owned a few recurves, but couldn't seem to get into them and sold them off, not wanting dust collectors.

Schafer

I switch between my long bow and recurve alot. But they both shoot the same arrows well so all i have to do, is get use to the feel of the one i'm using at the time.

Great stuff gentlemen! Keep it coming I have 32 submissions im shooting for 100!  Thanks again to those of you that have shared your piece of the passion that is archery!

V-Archer

I shoot my Blacktail Elite VL T/D recurve and my own made Hybrid R/D bow. Both I like to shoot.

I raved about the genius of a longbow bowyer who came up with the idea of a recurve years ago and shot one exclusively for about 8 years. "Just because", I picked up a 64" Border GL longbow with a classic "D" shaped when strung, HH handle, but allowed myself a little "genius" with a slight R/D when unstrung and just fell in love with it to my great surprise! I have a sleeve style 2 piece that keeps the same lines of a one piece. I completely relate to those who speak of the "romance" as it were of a true longbow. Hybrids are great bows too but I think most people know they are as much recurves as longbows with their recurve risers and limbs very clearly curving back away from the archer. For me anyway, they just don't quite capture that same history/feeling.  I can see a selfbow in my future!     :)     Oh, and also Border's new 3 piece hybrid when it comes out! I own about 15 recurves  but when I go shoot, it's a longbow that's in my hand 99.9% of the time.  Mostly, I bought all the recurves here and there for bows that my kids would grow into.  Most range from 32 to 50 pounds pull.  My longbow is 60# at 30" but pulled about 32" so maybe 65 or 66#.

I've come to believe that the keys to shooting well for me are good form, trusting the bow to do all the work, and having the confidence in the bow and myself to remain motionless and relaxed at release until the arrow hits the mark.

Saltydog

I have at least one of each kind and right now the one I am shooting most (and best) is an Old Mahoning Hybrid T/D, 60" 50# @ 28. This thing is puts the arrows right where I'm looking better than anything I've shot in a long time.
I've learned that walk in the woods with my father as a child did wonders for me as an adult.
