I'm looking to buy a selfbow and I'm interested in finding a reputable bowyer, any suggestions ?
Fundamentally the marksman aims at himself

broketooth

i would talk to mr pat brennen, eric krewson, john strunk from spirit bows, there are a number of other self bowyers here at tg who also might be able to help you outin building you a bow go to the bowyers bench and ask around   :campfire:
" you have done well to keep your hair when so many are after it"

Don't forget Ted Fry at Raptor Archery. I bought an Osage bow from Ted about 10 years ago and it still shoots great. I think he's a sponsor here too.

longstick

Arvin Weaver out of Austin makes a fine osage selfbow..he can be reached via Bob Sarrels

Shaun

Wingnut at Dryad makes a fine osage stick and is a sponsor.

I make em but don't sell em. I believe you should make your own. I like to ask folks, "Which part of self bow don't you understand?"

"I wish someone would have introduced me to this sport 20 years ago."

Thanks guys for the vote of confidence but I am taking a break from bow building for a month or two. My focus now is teaching the craft to other people. I had some great guys come by last week and work in my shop. I expect them back on any days I have available.

Randy Clark put in 8 hours on Tuesday and Bill Sheppard worked 10 hours on Thursday. These guys really want to learn how to make bow and I enjoyed teaching them. Both drove a long distance to get here.

I have a Ted Fry bow that I got last year that is becoming my favorite and probably my elk hunting stick this year. Might give Raptor Archery a look.
If you don't like cops, next time you need help, call Al Sharpton

All the people mentioned above make good selfbows, I would add Mike Yancy and Mark Baker to the list.
Like Shaun, I make selfbows but do not sell them.
The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is nowhere as important as being able to place it in the correct spot.

Its not the size of the animal you hunt that matters. Its how you hunt the animal.

I recently gotta Dryad Hunter....
She's plain, simple, and shoots great.  It seems faster than any of my other bows, but haven't chrono'd any.
I think these bows are overlooked by many but they do perform, and very well.  Give'em a try.  :archer:

Steve Gardner, don't know if he is here but goes by Badger on just about any forum I have seen him on.  I've heard a lot of good about his work.

I know a fellow on one of the other forums traded him some hickory staves for a boo backed osage that was real nice, so I have a feeling he might be game to make one.  He normally keeps himself busy making selfbows for flight shooting.

Build your own,its not that hard. There's a wealth of information available on the net,the Boyers Bench forum here has much information and fine folks willing to walk you through it. Building your own bows adds a whole new prospective to traditional archery,be forewarned, building self bows is highly addictive and habit forming.PM me if I can help
