I just recieved these in a trade. They kind of resemble a snuffer, but they have a conicle tip welded to them. Then there is no blade ground on them. Let me know what they are if you can. Thanks.

I would guess them to be unfinished Snuffers that had not had the bevels ground on them.

Yes, they are unground Snuffers and if you look close enough I'd bet you find they are "seconds" for some reason.... that's why they were never ground.

Are they worth using? How's the back holding up Charlie? Hoping to see you ouy here in a couple months.

those are practice Snuffer heads that they made for awhile. I had some too.

I've resurrected quite a few of them in the past. The main problem I've run into is lack of brazing, blades not fully attached at the rear, and blade alignment problems.

You'll probably need to make a "usability" accessment yourself. I grind them, shoot them and go from there... mostly they are reserved for chucks, racoons and coyotes anyway.

The back is still giving me fits and limiting my shooting and mobility. I have an appointment on the 17th that I hope will fix the problem.

Hope ye get fixed up soon, it was a year ago I was hobbled by a herniated disc...

I too have that herniated disc problem, but mine is not as severe. I hope you heal up well and will be praying for a speedy recovery. I was sure hoping to meet you out here this year.

Those would be, as stated above, unfinished Snuffers.  Don't know how they got out there - these turn up time to time - we definitely DID NOT sell unfinished heads for practice or anything else.  Dad probably gave them to interested folks for one reason or another or they may be Delta or Magnus vintage.  May or may not be fully heat treated (could be soft), also as Charlie said they are likely seconds that got pulled out for some quality reason - usually one of 3 things - A. lack of weld on back of blade to ferrule, B. lack of weld behind the cone-pin (hole thru there) or C. bent blades.  The bend may not be obvious to the eye.  If the heads are hard they would be fine to grind and use.  Actually I've never used a first run Snuffer - all I've ever hunted with are seconds.
