I wish I could find the jonesy style hat somewhere if anyone has any info. But since I have drawn a blank, I was woundering what you guys suggest for a good hat that has a brim that worx well with traditional. I know that there is the military boonies, but what does like Larry jones wear? My jonesy hat basically disingrated when I washed it.

A few ideas here...

Grey Wolf makes a crusher cap , could be made in their plaid or a green wool, fold up the back and its pretty jonesy.

I really like stormy kromers, great hat and quite versitle, good lookin too.

I think this answers the age old, "what is Larry D wherein nowadays"  question.

Day one crusher hat,

  found here...

pick your flavor and material, fold up the back and you have a packable Jones hat.

After a bunch of trial and error, I am now using a brown Kangol 504 for a lot wear at the range, the woods and around town.  When shooting I turn it backwards but it works ok with the brim forward too.

I also keep a camo/waterproof boonie in my pack.

Check out  www.wildthingsfur.com  I just received a "Free trapper hat" made from three oppossum pelts and the bill is made from beaver tail.  :bigsmyl:            :bigsmyl:    :archer:

I love the hobby of "Buckskinning" so fur hats fit me just fine for hunting, and trecking.

Good luck and watch your top knot!!

The old style Adirondack wool crushers are hard to beat and they are still cheap--15-18 $. I think the brand was Effanian or close to that. They did come in many colors and camo to.

Travisc406,

Got this hat from Hatcountry.com.  100% Wool, made in the U.S.A by Bailey.  Is very pliable and I have no problem shooting with it.

For my money in the winter, it is a wool Kangol hands down.  Summer time, I just pick up whatever cotton boonie hat I can find on sale, they usually last 3-4 summers before they fall apart from washing.

Trad tech and 3-rivers got some good ones.

Go check out Raven's link.  That possum looks better than it sounds.   :biglaugh:

Yea, nothing like the hunter being hunted!  :scared:        :scared:

Bayoulongbowman, you need one made of gator skin. It would be water proof and alot cooler in all the heat/humidity.  :p

The way I see it, it can't be any worse than the guys crawling around in gile suits or sitting in a hidden groundblind only a few yards from a deer/turkey decoy. Never know who may be lurking around with a highpowered rifle and take a crack shot at your set-up.  :scared:  Had a friend turkey set-up get shot at from a guy hunting from the road. No one got hurt, thank goodness.

In warm weather I usually use a short billed ball cap.  I think I'll invest in a Stormy Kromer for the winter; I saw a few of them at the local sports store and really like them.

acolobowhunter

I am like you, I have been using a Jones cap for over 35 yrs.  Mine also was falling apart.  One of my hunting pardners got me a new one a while back.  Think he got it from Cabelas'  Hope it lasts another 35 yrs.

The only one I have seen that fits the bill is the one from LL bean. I will be ordering one of those unless anyone knowsof a camo one. thanx travis
