I've been shooting carbon's for sometime now, and want to make up some wood arrows. I want to go with Douglas Fir. My longbow is 1/16" from center, 46lbs @ 26". My arrows will be 27" bop with a 125 grain broadhead. I was thinking 45/50lb shafts to start with. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Either the 45-50's or 40-45's.  I would start with the 45-50, esp if you are shooting a hard string.  Cut some an inch long for starters and check arrow flight there, using whatever method you like.  You can cut them shorter if you need to stiffen them up some.

I am shooting 45# @ 26" from my Great Northern Fireball.  It is a hybrid and cut to center.  My arrows are 27" bop with 125 grain tips.  Using paper tuning I tried all different spine weights and 50/55 works best for me.

Mike, I'd say you're right on the money for a starting point...

Mike,

Contact Tim at Braveheart Archery, he's got lots of really nice doug fir, the surewoods. Never had to straighten one yet, really.

Good prices, great guy too.

I just reciently made some sitka spruce arrows for my 45# longbow. I used 50-55 spined shafts. These fly like a laser beam and hit like a Mack Truck.

Russ, I've been in contact with Tim. He recommended a 40/45 or 45/50. I'll probably buy from him.
