I've got a few question's for you all. I've always used the 125 grain screw on Snuffer and had great success with It but I wanted to try a bigger BH so I was planning on going to the 160 grain glue on Snuffer but I'm a little worried about a few things.

What's your arrow set up consist of for the people who use this big Snuffer (grains and etc)?

How many pounds are you pulling?

Is It durable? Tip bending?

Did you notice less or more penetration when you went to this set up?

I want to know anything and everything that comes to mind from the folks who use or have used this head.

I shoot them out of 53-58# bows, mounted on swagged aluminum arrows. Never had a point roll back yet, blew through a bear last spring breaking 2 ribs. I took a turkey at 12 yds and when the arrow hit, sounded like a baseball bat hitting a heavy bag. Takes a bit to get sharpened but its one very tough head.


 

Guru has shot a lot of critters with them and also Ryan Rothaar.  He told me he spent a great deal of his youth helping his dad produce them and I know he has shot everything with them up to Moose and Muskox with them!  Joseph

I shoot them on wood-ramin, laminated birch, ash, chundoo-and fiberglass.  My arrows are usually 600 to 700 grains.  I've shot them out of 65# selfbows, a 60# Dryad Bushwacker, and 60# fiberglass recurves and longbows. No problems at all.  takes and holds a good edge, not tip rollup, to date. They leave a huge hole and an excellent bloodtrail!!!

28.5 - 29" BOP ash or birch arrows from a 53# shrew & a 51# selfbow. only time the tip rolled is when the arrow hit a rock after hitting a deer.

Thanks for the responses everyone. The reason I ask Is yesterday evening I took the BH's out and did some practicing with them being I'll be out turkey hunting for the 1st time next weekend. I was kinda shocked with the penetration I got with the big Snuffers In my deer target. My arrows weigh In at 743 grains with an FOC of about 18%. Just for the heck of It I through on my smaller Snuffers and my penetration was better but I also lost 60 grains In the process and went down to 15% FOC. Arrow flight was good with both set ups but I'd sure like to see what these bigger Snuffers will do. I can't make my mind up on what to do.    

I'm pulling 61lbs.

Deer/black bear sized stuff 50lb and up is fine with the big heads and reasonable wt arrows, I killed all of my elk and caribou with around 58lbs/600 gr arrows and the moose and muskox with 65lbs/680 gr arrows.  Shot through most everything except the muskox - stopped at offside ribs.  I've had better than 90% passthrough (2 holes) on animals with the big Snuffers over the years.  Penetration is one of the most overWORRIED aspects of traditional bowhunting today - I don't say overrated, because it is critical - but overWORRIED because, frankly, if you are shooting reasonable weight equipment, with sharp heads, adequate penetration is typically a non-issue on "normal" animals.

With your setup I would not hesitate to hunt anything in North America - an most animals anywhere else - with the big heads.

He knows and certainly has more experience than me with them, but I just know they work very well! My experience with them mirror his.

Haha, to be honest I am and have always been a wood shooter and will continue to be one!  That said I lost a shooting contest with my buddy and the deal was if I lost I would have to shoot carbon, and he would have to use wood for the trip if he lost!  So with that my arrows in the video are Gol Tip Traditionals?  I think that is what they were called, and a 160 gr. Snuffer out of a 70 lb Thunderstick 3 longbow.  They shot good but just do not have the "Feel" either off the bow or in the hand.
