My wife accidentally ordered me a piece sealskin rest material for christmas. So I figured I might try it. This may be a silly question but is there any special direction the grain of the fur needs to go?? Also any thoughts on it it compared to other materials?

I have a seal skin rest on one of my widows and I love it,you just want to make sure that the fur is going the same way as the arrow(if that makes any sense),the hair lays a certain way, when you draw your arrow, it'll go against the hair when you release it goes with the hair.Just make sure you use a good glue like Barge cement and it'll last a looooong time.

Thanks Wv tradbow for the reply, that's kinda what I figured as far as direction but I figured I better double check just to make sure.

Recheck your bows tune when you get it on there. It played havoc with mine had to back to Dr Scholls.

You are lucky to have a wife that makes such good mistakes!

Long, long afterward, in an oak I found the arrow, still unbroke;
And the song, from beginning to end, I found again in the heart of a friend.

Yes, Killy My wife is the best!  I used a magic marker and it bled through the 3Rivers catalog. It circled a couple of additional things I didn't ask for perfectly.   :bigsmyl:

They're great rest i have had a few for over a year now. Just a warning don't shoot arrows with stick on wraps. It tears the hairs off rather quickly. Definetly use barge cement also.

I recently picked up some sealskin rests, and was wondering if the stick on wraps in fact, tear up the Seal Skin?  Can anyone get me squared away?

Thank you,

Cari-bow

I use wraps and have seal skin on my hunting bows. The seal skin wears quicker but that was the case before I used wraps. The reason for using seal skin is to keep the noise down when drawing an arrow over a cold rest (below freezing).I use wraps from Onestringer.

How the heck is everybody getting sealskin?  As a furbuyer I was cut off from it when they implemented the marine mammal protection act.  I legally couldnt even possess pre-act materials.
It was illegal to import from Canada and illegal to buy from native Americans who COULD legally harvest them.
Its great stuff for sure, but this is the first I've heard about it being allowed again?
Who carries it now, I'd love to pick some up....

I am lucky enough to be in Canada, I was able to purchase a complete pelt, no ban here (for now)

What is the law about already made objects of seal fur?

I know a guy who wears a seal skin vest. Maybe I could sneak up behind him with some sharp scissors.
