They are very hard to judge from one trail picture but it looks good.In this country, the only bears that carry their weight like that,in the Spring, are mature ones.

Wow! Good luck with him! It's pretty cool having him in your area.

He looks like he hasn't missed too many meals in his lifetime. I'd say if he still looks good when viewed in person, have at it.

Have fun.
I find the older I get, the less I used to know!

boars dominate baits and food sources - the blonde bear is probably a sow or a young boar.

I mentored a youth hunt where a big boar I had been watching had inches of fat on it.in a spring hunt. A sow that was coming into the bait longer than the boar ended up with zip for fat.

Kill the big bear Dan.. or the other..
THE VOICES HAVEN'T BOTHERED ME SINCE I STARTED POKING THEM WITH A Q-TIP.

Thats a goodun. You all can let him pass if you think it's too small, I'll take him.  But what do I know, I'm from Ohio and have to pay to go hunt bear!lol

It's certainly a nice bear but I have to agree with Walt on this one. Firstly, the picture has nothing to compare the bear to so giving a weight is next to impossible. By the characteristics of the bears body and head I'd bet it is significantly smaller than most are guessing. Shoot him and we'll see....he's beautiful either way! Good luck.....Ryan

IMO, nice looking Bear, but not P&Y. If it is the best Bear coming into your bait, then by all means I would take it.

If your happy with him he`s a shooter! If your not don`t shoot him. Your the hunter and if he looks good to you and you have the opportunity for a good shot take him. It`s the adventure that counts. I`d say he`s 225lbs tops. Go get him. He has a nice thick coat and will make a great rug.

Well put Dave

I gotta agree with Walt and Stickflinger....hard to tell from one pic, but my immpression is that it's not as big as most think....

That said....I'd shoot it in a heartbeat!

Good Luck

Heres a couple of bears for comparison. The 1st Live Bear standing WAS 360#.   The 2nd Bear on the ground with my friend Serge Poulin ( longhorn) , was 260#.Sorry about Serge's head, but trust me the Bear is better looking LOL.

DELTA

Its a great looking bear. But from the pic its hard to say. If its P&Y. I would have to say no,maybe 280 lb.Bear and Hogs are hard to tell in size with out another one next to it.   :banghead:   But it is a shooter for a rug  :archer:

It's feet are small and it's ears are big. I'd say you might be disapointed if you ground check her.

What Biggie said. This Bear is still alive , hope to put him" Toenails in the air" this fall. Maybe I'll start a contest and whoever guesses the weight  can skin him out for me! LOL. Check out the upturned nose. Sorry for the terrible pic, only a 2 meg camera.

Randy Morin

He just doesnt look that tall to me...I'd say he's a pretty good (average) Idaho boar though.
Beautiful coat...would be tempting...very tempting.

My "Guesses", cause thats all they are

I will try to arrange the camera so that I get a pic of him next to the barrel, if I don't stick him before then.

i'd bet this bear is in the 300# range. he will no doubt add another 100# or so. the tell tale sign for me is the size and shape of his head. can't tell from the picture about his ears but i can see the gap between them and the width of his skull. give us his specs when you get em...

I'm just used to all the yearlings- 150lbs or so- that come into my bait all the time.  If you look in the Idaho forum, 2009 spring bear, you can see some of them.  I'm going up in the morning, I'll keep you updated.

I got tons of hogs comming to bait but man I wish I had bears here too.  I would be divorced for sure.  I love that bear hunting....looking to go again in 2010.
