This is the largest bear I have coming in to my bait site.  any bruin experts want to hazard a guess to its size?

I know its difficult with no frame of reference.  Some smaller bears were playing with the camera and moved it to where it doesn't show the barrel.

There's a lot of space between his small ears. He'd dang sure go P&Y. I think he'll probably score between 16 4/8" to 17" but I've been out of the bear game for quite a few years and I'm probably pretty rusty.

What are ya waitin' for?

Great bear, thanks for sharing.

if you think he'll fill the freezer i'd go ahead and ground check him  :D

A definate Pope and Young bear! 18" is minimum, he'll definately beat that. He's a nice mature boar and would be a great trophy for anyone.
Good luck on your bear hunt!

centaur

Drop the string! He is a good bear!

I've taken five bears in the past..would love to see what this guy would weight in the fall..But the coat is ALOT better now..I think he would be pope & young or pretty darn close..all I can say is " DROP THE STRING "  :archer: .then get a few huntin' buds to help with the drag.

He'd make a fine rug. Shoot him before he starts to rub that fur off.

I have to disagree; it is a decent bear but nothing exceptional.  I would have to see it in person before making a decision, but from the photograph I would let it walk and wait for a better bear.  However, I have a 19 5/8" and tend to be picky.
The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is nowhere as important as being able to place it in the correct spot.

If it's the biggest one on your bait...drop the string, then let us know just how big he is.

They will fool you if you can not see them from the side. The big ones have a belly on them. :)

He just started coming in.  If I can keep the hound hunters off the bait I may get a shot.  If not Ill probably settle for the blond one, he looks anorexic though.       :banghead:
