Just wondering if anyone has used the Thunderhead 170 grain magnum 3 blades.

They're basically just a beefed up 125 grain broadhead made of steel and not aluminum.

Also can you use standard 125 blades?  They look to have the same profile and are the same thickness.

Just wondering...

Good question...never considered those for traditional gear before.  Anyone with any experience?

Josh, is this a new head they have? I have the old 180 grain heads from the '80s, and I want more! I have wondered if their 150 blades will work, also,

I have three boxes of 150 grain 2 blade heads (18) and 4 packs of new replacement blades(along with what comes with the new heads)...figures I switch bows and would need to add some more insert weight to make them work.  I may make my next MFX arrows with the extra 25 grains of the break apart adaptors.

They are listed on the site but you can find them as a close out item if you look hard enough.

I am currently using 170 grain field points and they would work well I think.

I've not tested them yet but I am familiar with them.  They are basically a Thunderhead 85 but in all steel.  They should be great heads, and a nice match for many stickbow set ups even though they are marketing them as a crossbow head.

They use Thunderhead 85 replacement blades as well.

That part is good to know...they really soak you for the replacement blades but you can get a much better deal on the 85 grain variety.

Thanks,

Just a thought...since they take the 85 grain blade would the angle of the blades be too sharp?

I was looking at some 85 grain heads I have and it got me to wondering.

I've got a package unopened. Ya'll should know by now I love Thunderehads and won't shoot anything but them anymore.

170 gr
1 1/8" cutting diamter
.027 blade thickness

NAP site lists codes for 170 replacement blades.

Interesting, the 100 and 125 gr heads are 1 3/16" wide, so I guess there is a bit sharper angle to the degree on the blades.

Hmmm...I see them being advertised as crossbow heads.  Wonder why?

They were marketed as a crossbow head because of the heavier weight...I think they were trying to get the crossbow bolts heavier for better penetration.

I think they look great...I got a pack last week but with my skinny carbons they don't mate up well without an adaptor of some sort.  I think I'll need to use the UBAR adaptors that I've used in the past; they weight about 1 grain and square everything up.

I just picked up some Razorcap replacement blade units on clearance for $14.97 and have some ferrules to make them 175 grains and I'm going to get some more to make 150 grain varieties, they're a wicked head!  I believe I'm going to have some fun this fall if I can get some deer to come by.

I don't think their cut on contact.  Can't get a bigger strike against ya, unless your talking mechanical and they don't count.
