Is there anyone out there building Bear replica bows like John Mc Cullogh was doing a while back?

Thanks

Well guys there not true Replicas. the word Replica mean the same and from what I have seen there close very close but there are the little things that dont make them as close as they could be.. From some of the Replicas I have see and shot the riser's are not the same some are longer some are shroter.... The Limbs are to wide. the string groves are not as long as the true 59...
P.S I am not saying any thing bad about the bowmaker or the Replicas there just not the same as the real 59..
But Like I say the people who do make the Replicas do a very nice job on them.. I would own and shoot one....
We as archer's must keep it alive by helping others into the sport WE LOVE.

Check with Chad Holm @ Holmmade Traditional Bows. He used to make some and I think he still will for orders.

I'd love to see someone make a 1968-69 Super Kodiak replica with todays more stable materials to eliminate all the stress lines they are known for. 48" Super Mag would be coo too.

I think the Super K reproduction Big River makes is exactly that.
No hunter should feel guilty for killing a deer that doesnt meet someone else's expectations.

I am in touch with Vintage Works and I am going to contact Big River. Vintage works is in the process of building a form for the Kodiak and makes a beautiful 59er. I would realy like to get a 67 - 69 Super Kodiak or replica.

My first hunting bow, that was bought new, was in '68 and was a Kodiak Magnum. I couldn't afford a Super Kodiak and wanted one since. I think it is about time. My second new recurve was a Bear Kodiak takedown bought new in 1980. I am sorry I sold that bow. As I get older I get a little nastalgic I guess.

Thanks for the info.

The Big River is a close copy of the 1968 Super Kodiak. If you know any left handed shooters, Lamont Granger at the Footed Shaft has a used one right now.

You might want to give ED HOLCOMB # 413-274-3765 a call he builds a version of 59' Kodiak and is an accomplished bowyer and does beautiful work.
He is located in Western,Mass.
I believe TRAP a Trad member posted a pic or 2 of one of Ed's bow in Collector section.

and as Tom mentioned E.B. builds one heck of a sweet repro too.I believe he builds all models of early Bear Kodiaks Kodiak Specials and some Harry Drake reproductions. All Ed's bows look really nice and shoot great.bd

One note, The Big River is not an exact replica as it is a 62" bow.

TTT...

If anybody could PM to me the e-mail contact details of Mr. McCullogh, Mr. Holcomb, or Vintage Works (or websites, if available), it'd be most appreciated.

Thanks!

Ben, Ed Holcomb doesn't have an email address currently. I shot his '59 Kodiak rep as well as McCullogh's, I would buy either one. Ed's was 100 bucks cheaper. Tom posted Ed's phone number on page one. I don't know contact info for either of the other's.

I just received my Holcomb 59 replica from Ed at Dentonhill. Both are nice bows but Ed's is closer to the real thing. They are good shooters and the workmanship is top shelf.
