Ok I know John used to make Shrews, I know they are almost the same bow but.... Is one better than the other and if so which one would you go with. I know Shrew's are shorter than most Griffin's, and is there a cut off and is 54" to short and how would a 54" Shrew compare to a 58" Griffin? I know I am in for it with this one so please, I am just asking so I don't make a 700 dollar mistake.

Curtis Haden

Fear not... You can't go wrong with either one IMHO.  The Griffins are being offered in somewhat shorter lengths now also, I believe, but perhaps not quite as short as the Shrews.  Both are excellent bows.  I'm guessing John has a bit longer waiting list (time) from what I've read recently.

I own a 64" Griffin, but have only ever shot one Shrew.  I liked my Griffin better than the Shrew, but then again, I was used to the longer Griffin...  The workmanship on all of them I have ever seen was excellent.

Guess I really didn't answer your question, but again, I don't think you'll regret either one.

Curtis pretty much sums it up.

I've owned both at the same time. You can't go wrong with either. In my opinion, the Griffin was a tad quicker and the Shrew was a tad quieter.

Like has been said they are both great bows made by excellent bowyers.  I own both.  I have a 64" Griffin and I have 2 58" Shrews 2 54" Shrews and 2 52" Shrews.  Where you gain with the Shrews dropping down to the 54" length Classic Hunter model is the riser is shorter by 4".  In all honesty my 52" Classic Hunter is as smooth as my 64" Griffin.  In my opinion Gregg and Ron hit the ball out of the park with the Classic Hunter models.  The main differences is the Griffin seems to have a thicker limb and a bigger throat on the grip and not as pronounced thumb rest.  Other than that I dont notice any difference in shooting either one.  I do know you can get Griffins down to 56" long and maybe even shorter now.

Like has already been said they are both great bows and I dont think you can go wrong with either one.

The 60" Griffin is just about the perfect all around length and the most popular one according to what John told me up at Denton Hill. I had one and sold it. If I ever get another one, it will be the 60"er.

I own a Shrew and 3 Griffins and I use them all. My main bow is usually a Griffin. My wife ordered one from John two years ago and we have not heard anything about it. John must have a backlog of orders so that may enter into your decision process. Probably best to order one of each since the Shrew waiting time appears to be shorter that may be the way to go IMO.

Big Ed

I have both and I have a tough time deciding on which to use.

I have both,
The wait time on the Griffin is going to be around 2 years.

Dang all you guys with many of each you should just sell me one. LOL The wait would be way shorter. Thanks for the help. I have a 58" Griffin that I really like and I have a 54" Shrew on order and I am just not sure if I will like the 54" as much.

Don't worry, you will love the Shrew!

I agree that my Griffin is a little faster and the Shrew is a littler quieter.  I personally like the Griffin better but have no plans to sell the Shrew.  Both of my bows are 60", however the Shrew is a little shorter.  I had a 56" Shrew Classic that I sold.  The handle was smaller in circumference and didn't fit me as well.

Both great bows. I have a Shrew made by John, his quality is first rate. My other Shrew(s) are made by Gregg Coffey, and I must say I like them better, with no slight to John. The grip is better (to me) on the current Shrew's, and I believe they are much quicker (to my eye, I haven't compared them on a chrono). They are equal in the "quiet" department.

If I were buyig a bow tommorrow, it would be a Shrew Classic Hunter. But if you order Griffin, you will be thrilled with it.

Thanks a bunch guys....

Red Boar

I have a 12-year-old Super Shrew that I love...so much so that I ordered a Classic Hunter.  Smooth and quiet and the grip is about perfect.
