For those of you who keep your feet on terra firma, and have tried these two camo systems, which do you prefer? Advantages or disadvantages of each? I have pretty good luck on the ground but get busted more than I would like and would like to improve the odds this year.

I use a 3d leafy ASAT suit. Works very well have had deer at 6 ft and didn't know I was there {with the right wind of course}.
Only draw back have to watch your string it tends to trim inside your arm for you.  

Until it gets cool enough here in Missouri I use my Ultimate ASAT 3D with deadly results..

TIP- build your "blind" BEHIND you tall enough to break up your outline and most important any head movements from behind. 99% of the time when I get busted on the ground it is from the back on deer I didn't hear sneaking in. Hence I started to sit in FRONT of my natural blind material.

After rifle season here the weather is cool and I break out my Shaggie. Heavy and hot but absolutly deadly. Trim your bow arm and practice shooting in a hunting situation.. All is good.

I really like my ghillie. I have a Rancho Safari brand. It is the one made up of strips of cloth rather than the strands of burlap or string. Hat, jacket and pants. It's MUCH lighter and MUCH cooler than the string ones.

Granted, it doesn't look as cool or Marine Corp snipperish, but I don't think the deer or turkeys mind.

Here is a pic of one of my nieces in my ghillie. I was doing double uncle duty while my little brother was deployed, and we were playing what the girls call "Sneak-up".

I shot my first turkey with a camo bug suit with shorts and a white t-shirt on underneith,,  lately its been a leafy suit---. I have to check out those ghillies though!

Thought I might add that my ghillie is not as "thick" as some others. It's not sparse by any means but what I wear under it does slightly affect the overall color of the outfit.

I think this works to my advantage. When I hunt out west (in the CRP or up on the tallgrass in the Osage) I wear tan or khaki under it to get a lighter overall look. When I hunt field edges I wear green, and when I hunt the big timber bottomlands I wear black.

Another 2 cents worth.

I just bought and have not yet used a mosquito netting leafy suit; and I am anxious to try it on bears. I caught on a long time ago that mosquito proof jackets make your silhouette hard to detect.

I still shiver at the thought of running into my buddy with his ghillie suit on - be careful; people are looking to bag bigfoot!

That's right.  I pick the third option: hoody.  I'm convinced that mos of the advantage a ghillie suit gives to a hunter in regards to animals (people are another matter) is that it gives them confidence and makes them focus.  Put on a hoody to break up your outline, sit or crouch really still (as still as you would in that ghillie suit) in front of some brush, and watch what happens.

I do all my hunting on the ground, stalking and still hunting, and my 'camo' is an old hoody that someone got me for Christmas.  Seems to work OK for me.

The only drawback is, my friends have taken to calling me Robin Hoody.  Wish I could figure out a way to fix that.  Maybe new friends?

I agree with Llyr with the part of breaking up the outline.  I've had pretty good luck with a hoodie plus boonie hat down low to almost cover my eyes.  I also will use just a ghille-type hat (homemade with strips of camo burlap through a boonie hat) to break up my head outline, then I sit behind an open-top ground blind.  Behind the blind, I don't feel the need for a full ghille or leafy suit.  My goal is to not look like a human to the deer.

3D leafy ASAT suit.  I love it.  I have had deer as close as 4 feet and they look right through me.  One of the best investments I have ever made.  I hunt on the ground more than in the trees since I bought the suit.
