I took a trip over the Easter break with my good mate "Chris". Although things didn't go to plan we still managed to get the chance to hunt for a couple of days. Now the last game I took with a recurve was my first trad kill. However that was over 2 years ago .I don't get much chance to hunt and as a result it took till the last morning of our easter hunt for me to get game on the ground.
It was more by accident (we got lost) than by good judgement that we got to the tank just after a mob of about 50 billies had had a drink. The mob was slowly feeding away from the tank with the wind at their back so we parked up the cruiser and circled around to get in front of them. This put the wind in our favour and hopefully the mob would walk past the spots we had chosen to ambush them from. Chris was to have first shot so I waited patiently tucked up under some mulga. The mob had come in and goats were everywhere except were I could shoot them coz I had set myself up on the wrong side and if I moved I would surely have been spotted.  I waited ears straining for the shot, then the billies closest to me all started to move away, I was running out of time so I started to work my way out around the bush.I heard the shot from Chris and used the distraction to get yself ready for a shot ,I had already chosen a Billy and was trying to focus on a spot on his shoulder. He walked out from behind some mulga and stopped ,looking in the direction of the rest of the mob I came to full draw and released .The arrow smashed into his left shoulder and he went up and over. I put a second shot into his heart to finish the job . I was elated to have taken My first Billy with trad gear and stoked that my Mate was there to share my success.
I was using my Fox Breed which is 58#@28 and GT traditionals with magnus stingers on the front.

The billy measured out to 85 DP and has a spread of 27.5 inches

To me, the ultimate challenge in bowhunting is not how far away you can succesfully make a killing shot but rather how close you can get to the animal before shooting.

There are no seasons and you can shoot as many as you want to or need to.
