I went today with the wife to a thrift store, Savers. Not too happy about that, however I hit the winter clothes aisle/rack and guess what I found?

A 100% cashmere sweater in burnt orange for $6 and a 80% lambswool/20% acrylic black sweater for $4.

Now, its a tough economy, and my wife bought me wool for Christmas, heavy sweater/jacket/pants. Using as a base layer I can see it being a very frugal way to get really nice warm hunting clothes.

Tough economy, thought I'd pass this along. I also found some NICE thick wigwam and wool socks too.

I would imagine on occasion a person could find camo wools in some as well. THAT would be sweet!

Yup, I get mine there too.  Nice thing is, the 100% merino wool, angora and casmere stuff is sooooo soft you can wear it right against the skin as a base layer.

Now, go to Sportsman's Guide and look for their "Swiss Wool Pants" and you'll be set for about $12 to $17 bucks for the best surplus pants on the market.  Nice and thick, great grey/olive drab color and pockets on the thighs like BDU's.  They don't always have them but check back now and then.

I've come to believe that the keys to shooting well for me are good form, trusting the bow to do all the work, and having the confidence in the bow and myself to remain motionless and relaxed at release until the arrow hits the mark.

I started shopping the thrift stores last year. Now I can't decide which wool shirt I want to wear or does that wool sweater make me look fat or does that color clash with my wool pants. Oh the world of hunting fashion.LOL  :banghead:

I found two in particular that were absolutely HIDEOUS - I mean, I've never seen such terrible colors .... and at the same time, I couldn't help but see in both of them a very VERY warm wear on a cold, cold deer stand !

We don't have much wool in the thrift stores in Bama.

One of the best deals going for wool are the 5 button GI sweaters on the auction site. Very warm and dirt cheap. Don't buy the first one you see, search through all that are up for auction. You can pay as little as $1 or up to $25 for one. I was impatient and paid $18 for my first, waited for a good deal and paid 99 cents for my next(no bids by anyone else).

How often do you "denizens of Goodwill" check in at the store?

The first time I looked, one store had a beautiful new-conditon Woolrich sweater for $3.49... three other thrift stores had NOTHING.

Went back about 60 days later, and didn't see anything new.  I thought about looking in today on a swing through town, but it has only beena month...

Are you regular wool-hunters, or is

Here in Boston & Cambridge  I've found filson, pendleton, Original woolrich (US Made) and codet wool sweaters shirts and jackets.

the inner City folk consider this stuff ugly and old fashioned and theres racks of it,, too bad it doesn't all fit or I'd have closets full of the stuff!

I picked up a Coach purse at a thrift store. Took it straight to the garage and cut it up. Makes great grips, string burnishers, rests and such. Found out later it was a $200-$400 dollar purse. I feel I got a bargain at $2 but wish I woulda threw that bugger to the bay. Might have got a few bucks for it.  :goldtooth:

Tajue17

yeah your telling me my fiance has about 5 of them&&&&&& the little purses that go inside are more usually about 350.00..

i can't complain she's happy and I can hunt whenever I want---> an expensive balance but not as expensive as those custom bows I bought 8^)

Coach purse's just the name makes me cringe! My wife has well, a bunch of them (along with Dooney and Burke)! I never understood the $400 dollar purse used to carry $4! (she probably says the same about bows)

But to stay on topic I never find good wool that will fit me in the shops around here, but I garantee you I will keep looking!
