I made these hill cane arrows for the upcoming Tenn Classic. I hope 6 is enough!  They are self nocked with sinew wrap sealed with super glue. The points are 16d common nails with a wad of brass braised on the head and shaped. The nail shank is fitted in the center hole and set in with TBIII. Five of the six are 2 fletch and one is 3 fletched. Feathers are attached with a small piece of fletch tape in the center and a sinew wrap fore and aft.
Simple, but effective.

This is a pic of the "nail" head and another I use with hardwood shoot arrows. The latter is a rectangle of steel shaped into a point at one end and inserted and glued into a slot cut into a hardwood shoot shaft. I tried it on cane after gluing in a hardwood dowel into the center hole before the slot was cut and it works great. A sinew wrap secures the glued in point.

Very Cool Pat...How do those two fletch arrows fly compared to the 3 fletch?

They range in weight from 559grs to 651 grs.
 If set up properly they fly as well as 3 fletch.

Those are beautys, I just got some stone points and an going to try to make some arrows. I seem to be getting pulled into making more primitive equipment.

My hunting arrows this past season were hill cane arrows with stone points.
 I love making my own equipment or trading for what I can't make. In these hard times it really helps not to take money from where it is really needed.

Nice arrows Pat. I have used river cane and Japanese arrow bamboo but not hill cane. Is that just river cane at a higher altitude?

I might have to dig out a primitive bow and make up some bamboo arrows for Tenn. I like to shoot primitive when there are several others doing so. I guess that's the place for it. See you there.

Don, Up until a few years ago we called it switch cane(Arundaneria tecta) but it was re-designated as hill cane(A. appalaciana) for the higher altitude stuff. It is actually deciduous and has thicker walls and a rounder culm than switch cane or river cane(A. gigantia).
Glad to hear you are coming to the Classic. There will be lots of folks there with "primitive" equipment. PA is a sponsor and PA members from all over are planning to come. It will be our(PA) biggest contingency to date. We had over 30 folks last year.
