I have some 160s in 23/64.
The shafts I have are 5/16 (POC). The 160s seem to be the right weight for my bow.
Does anyone have any thoughts on who has 160s for the smaller shafts? The ones I have are extremely hard to pull from a 3D and next to impossible to pull from a bag.
The 11/32 stamped points/heads should get the job done. Ace lists theirs to fit 11/32 and up....
I could use a longer shaft and less weight, yes. I prefer my arrows around 27/28 for my 26" draw.
I'm open to hear any thoughts ...

Not sure they make a 160 in 5/16. Just askin but why not shoot an 11/32 shaft and then your points would work out. just shoot the same spine in an 11/32
Bowhunting is a passion, not an obsession. Its just hard for my wife to tell the difference sometimes.

Billy, what weight are you shootin? How about a tapered shaft? I have several old Acme premiums in 5/16 dia. spine between 55-58 lbs. How's things in Koko city? I have family in Peru, have to shoot together sometime! Steve

Using oversize broadheads seems to work just fine and I use them on my 5/16 shafts.  Field points are another challenge as the oversize FP will hang up badly in targets.  I had some 160 gr 5/16 brass FP's specially made and they work pretty well.  Ace also has their Hex Blunts in 160 x 5/16.

You can taper the back of a 11/32 FP and get it to fit pretty well and they pull from targets OK.  You lose a little weight, but not much.
Good judgement comes from experience.  Experience comes from bad judgement.

I am shooting @48/9 lbs at my 26" draw.

Went to the range today and shot 125, 145, and 160s on my 5/16, 40-45#, 28" shafts.

The bow I am shooting has no shelf, to speak of. It is notched about 1/8th and has an addon 1/8".

I prefer shaft to head direct, is the biggest reason for my troubles.

The 160s are what flys best.

Pulling them is the only problem I have with them.

Tapered may be the answer..Although; Fletcher where did you find someone to make yours?

Frank, sounds llike a good idea!

Billy, are you shootin a self bow? I love them selfbows! If the 160s work for you, that's the most important thing, flight of the arrow! Targets are minute.Shoot what works and enjoy!  Hope to meet up with you and your buds! Steve

Billy

Yeah Frank, it's a laminated self bow..??..Is that the right term? It's Osage,Purple  Heart,Ash and 6 layers of Osage thru the handle.

Okay, how about a twist??

I broke a shaft right behind a 160 grn steel blunt. It happens. So....

I tapered the clean break, now at 26 1/4" from the throat, put on a 200grn Ace hexhead and wahlah!!! eureka!! Straight, fast and dang what a thump!!

So, my recipe comes out to...26.25"(throat to end of shaft), 5/16 POC, 2-5" RW helical and one happy bow/arrow/shooter combo!

I slather up a little extra hotmelt and roll the excess back over the tip to create a seal from shaft to head.

Will the 2 ton epoxy come off easy with heat?

Thanks for your thoughts and help.

Billy, yeah the heat will break the bond. Who made your bow? Sounds purty! I have a bbo with walnut and hickory by John McCullough. I love it!

Billy

WLC are the Bowyers intials. Don't know him. I got "Brushpopper" from George Stout, he picked the bow up at Denton Hill; I believe.

I'll be home next, the weekend of 15 May. We'll have to get together one time or another when I'm in.
