I thank you in advance for responding to the same questions always prompted by newbies.

So, I have been using wood for a while and now I want to switch to carbon or aluminum. Right now I am shooting a 55 pound bear montana longbow. I don't know what to do with tip weight or arrow length. My arrows are normally 29 1/2" from throat of nock to back of point. I use 125 grain tips, but I heard that is not enough to get the proper bend.

I guess I am looking for what size carbon arrow to buy and how heavy the tip needs to be.

Also, do you guys use heavier inserts with heavier tips? One last question,will weight tubes affect the spine? I want to hunt traditionally someday.

I'll give ya my thoughts on this age old question.  Just buy some AD HammerHeads, leave them long, use the inserts that come with 'em, and shoot your 125 grn. broadhead and you'll end up with an arrow that weighs about 550 grn., flies good and hits hard.  You don't need to add heavy inserts, or weight tubes.  I shoot 'em outta 50-60# bows with no hassles.
Oh yeah,I used to have a Montana and they shot fine out of it.

Other factors,what is your draw length,type of string dacron or FF type.Aluminum you might try a 2016 or 2018 with a 125 gr. point and trim&tune to fit.For carbons you could go with a 500 spine or a 400 and just add more weight upfront,you can do alot with carbon arrows.The heavier inserts and heavier point weights are used to tune and get the total weight up on carbons.

I shoot 29.5 inch 2018 aluminums with 125 gr heads out of my 55# bow.

a 35-55 will do ya, with or without "extra" wgt up front

Arthur, what part of PA are you from? You should be able to get the CX 150's to fly good. You may or may not have to add weight, it depends alot on how you shoot your bow. Steve

2018s are good. I hope they work out for you. Mine are just a tad longer than yours, not much.
