I would like to start shooting wood shafts but don,t really know what dia. or spine. I was told by an unreliable sourcr to choose 10# lighter than your draw weight. I'm shooting a 60" recurve 53@28 Thks for the help guys!
Martin Jaguar 60" 50@28
RER Vortex longbow 62" 46@28
Zipper Extreme 60" 55@28

I'd say that is definitely an unreliable source given your bow. There are a couple of good sites to help you calculate spine; namely morrison archery and acsbows. Maybe others. Also look in the buildalongs and how to sections on this site for arrow building information.

Brently

Check Rose City Archery they have a good spine chart for their POC shafts, also some good tips on arrow making and tuning.

Try 3 Rivers laminated birch. They only come in 50 - 55 but are 5/16 and I think you could leave them long. Most bows now are close to center shot and very forgiving. They are tough but spendy. They should finish out at about 650grns

If you ARE close to center shot 60 would be about right, more if past center and less if short of center

Best thing to do is a test kit from 3 rivers if you can. I was lucky enough to have a Bud that shot cedars. He had some 50/54 #ers  that flew well out of my 46 and 50 # Longbows, cut to 28"s [27" draw] with 125 grains on the end. I shoot 60/65#Sitka Spruce nock tapered cut to 28"s with 125 grains up front out of a 47# Widow PL . They fly like lazer guided darts.

BRITTMAN

I think your friend ment 10 lbs over draw weight . I think 60-65 or 65-70 if they are cut to 29in. and using 125-145 tips .
