I've found 78 so far- a good season here in north Mississippi. Fried the first batch. Last night I made a morel cream sauce with 2 cups of halved morels cooked in butter, a cup of cream, some flour and seasonings and a little wine. After pouring it into a bowl and wiping out the pan, I cooked two filets to rare, starting by searing on top of the stove and finishing in a 500 degree oven when turned. After the steaks were done, I took them out of the pan and added the morel sauce back to it and rewarmed it with the leavings from the steak. The mushrooms and sauce were poured over the steaks, and served with fresh asparagus from the garden and a baked potato, one of the best meals I've had in years!

I would like to go to southern Ohio to hunt some. When do you expect to be able to find them in southern Ohio?

Hard freeze last night in mid-Missouri. We have good ground moisture, but the weather needs to start improving pretty soon.

26 degrees here in NE Kansas today... Still too cold to check my patch out back. Sure do enjoy them with bacon and scrambled eggs.  :)

I found 72 in snow showers yesterday. May go out and find some more today. It got cold here last night, but I think there'll be more to find.

I'm just glad they haven't popped their heads up here yet.  If they had, they'd now be under the 8" of snow we got Monday.  Probably about a month to go here.

I found 69 more over the weekend in north MS. Most of them had been up for a few days, and only a couple were fresh ones. I think it's about over here. Here's Easter Sunday's harvest:

If it wasn't for the morels, turkey season would be a complete bust! Totals for the season: Turkeys 0, morels 146.
