I am relatively new to the traditional world and know very little about choosing the right spine for a longbow.

I will be getting a black swan hybrid bow very soon.  It will be 47# at 27", but i intend to shoot it at 28.25", so most likely 50-52# at my draw length.

Which arrows would you suggest and which spine?  I would like to buy some with a wood look (heritage, beman mfx classic, gold tips), but price is also an important factor

Why would you spend the bucks on that bow and try to skimp on the arrows!?

because i didn't spend the bucks on the bow, bought it used for a good price

goblism: shooting a longbow with the wrong arrow can make the experience very trying. Its fun to have perfectly matched arrows; and that is what we are all in love with; that arrow flying true.

 I would suggest that you try different suggested spines and types of arrows; and not be satisfied until your arrows flight reflects the path you want to put it on.

Don't give up until you find that arrow; and figure it just might be a puzzle until you do.

3Rivers offers a test set of arrows- which you might learn from.

I think the best way to find the arrow you want- is to attend a trad shoot; and shoot other peoples arrows. As soon as you show confusion about what arrow is best; there are normally lots of people saying 'try mine!'.

Don't fall for the ' with this one I can shoot an apple right off your head ' line... I did and...and .. what was I saying ?

i would prefer to stick with carbons, otherwise i would order that test set.

I am just wondering which size of carbons would be the best to start with, and than adjust the point weight, arrow length, and such after finding the arrow that should be close to the spine i will be needing.

My best guess would be a Beman 500, but I'm sure someone who shoots close to your specs will have a more accurate suggestion.

depends what wieght arow you are going for, a good bargain is gold tip blems, easyest tuning is arow dynamics.  you could shoot 3555 gold tips cut down and have some weight, or you could do 5575 and get some real good point weight.

Is that bow cut past center?  If so you're probably going to need more spine than a .500.

what do you mean by more spine?  Like I will need a .400 spine instead?

No, the 500 spine will be fine. I would say a Heritage 150 cut to 29.5"s with a hundred grain brass insert and a head of 125-150 will put you about balls on. I sent ya a PM. Shawn

I shoot gold tip arrow with a 5575. they work great

Not cut past center, go with a .500 unless you have plans for sky high point weights.

thanks for the info kentucky,  i found a good deal on some new beman mfx max-4s, which are the same as the beman mfx classics, so i will just switch to those once i get good with these cheap arrows in the meanwhile.
