Time is a great teacher, but unfortunately it kills all its pupils.

looks like I'll be stuck chasin the local birds, what few we have.  :(

C2, I don't think there is any public land in Switz. Co. So that would be out for me unless some one has something lined up that they would let us in on.

Splinter Ridge is located in Switz. County.  Check the DNR website.  There are a lot of turkeys there, just not sure of the pressure, especially on the weekends.

b.glass

Varmint, I am in Grant Co.

willob, I was checking out Splinter Ridge in the guides a little bit. I will look at that closer.

You should also look into the local lottery draw hunts at Big Oaks National Wildlife Refuge.  They have a local drawing for hunting the second and third weekends of the season. Lots of birds.  E-mail me if you want more info.

I took these pictures on my way home from work one morning a couple of weeks ago.  The pictures were taken about a mile from my house.  We have a lot of turkeys all around the area.  I am not a big turkey hunter, but I am going to try this spring.  During deer season last fall, I saw more turkeys than deer.  The property that I live/hunt on is strictly family only, but I wouldn't mind if some of the turkeys were taken out.  I would think someone would get easier access to turkey hunting in the area than asking around about deer hunting.

Thanks scrub-buster. I sure thought those pics were older than that! It is truly impressive to me! I'm lucky to see turkeys up here whether I'm scouting or hunting.

I didn't get drawn for the hunt I tried for up here. I think it's time to try another approach...like going south!

I have this next weekend off and I plan to scout some of the areas suggested here.

Meathead, I've looked into Big Oaks and my work schedule doesn't coordinate. But thanks for the input!

Don't forget to think OCTOBER...(see John Scifres' post).
More deer hunters/campers would be a good thing!

Hey Billy, I would REALLY like to go to John's deer camp this Oct. What is the title to his post so I can check out the particulars?

I had to sleep yesterday and Greg wanted me to wait until Sat. so he could go with me. So, I can give a report tomorrow night or Sun. on what I'm able to find out.

I'm trying to narrow down my search options so I can get a decent idea of the area instead of just a drive-by. I don't know if I will get more than one day to scout.

Well, I think I've decided on Hardy Lake. We can camp there and hunt there too. And we are close enough to some other areas that we could hunt  them too. Tenatively it is going to be Thurs afternoon through Sunday noonish.
