Anyone want to go on a southern Indiana turkey hunt with me and my son?

Sure.  You know of a place that has some turkeys?

Have you ever hunted turkeys before?  I haven't so you'd have to school me some.     :)

Not exactly. I need to do some scouting. I have hunted turkeys for several years but have never been successful. I am self taught and it has been a long process!

Some folks who were at the rabbit hunt talked like they knew where to find some turkeys. Maybe some of them will chime in.

I'm up for suggestions as far as where to hunt. I have the first weekend of the season and the last weekend of the season free from work to choose from.

I'm pretty booked for turkey season with family stuff so I won't be able to make it.  But Martin State Forest is good.  There are several spots in the Hoosier National Forest down that way that are pretty good too.  It's pretty heavily hunted but if you are willing to get back a ways, there are plenty of birds to chase.  Jackson Washington SF also has plenty of birds.  Have fun, wish I could join you.

I'm pretty booked up for turkeys this year as well! I may be able to go on the last weekend depending on the location, but by then I am normaly tagless!

Where abouts in southern Indiana are you? I live about 30 miles south of Bloomington! There are quite a few turkeys in the Hoosier national if you are willing to walk in a ways "to get away from the crowd" had a few come in last year, just couldnt get a shot. Jason

Vincennes here and depending on my work schedule I would like to graciously take you up on this offer.

Thanks John and Dennis for the suggestions. I figured I'd be hearing from you! Sorry you can't make it.

Switzerland Co. looks amazing Clint! Not sure we could do much damage, but I would love to take a crack at that! Would you be joining us?

Any idea how much an out of state turkey license is, or did you have to put in for a draw a long time ago?

Wow, if I could hunt that spot in Switzerland Co., I would jump on a plane and head there from Oregon   :D

I don't think you have to be drawn for these place mentioned. The places I live near are drawing only. So I have to look elsewhere when not drawn.

I haven't received notification whether or not I've been drawn and I thought that I should have heard by now. I may not have seen it if someone else brought the mail in. You know what I mean?

If I can find my hunter's guide I will post the cost of an out of state license.

I have an offer already from Adeeden or I'd be game.
I knocked on 4 doors the other day asking permission to hunt where I've seen Turkeys, got shot down on all of them. One guy was real nice and explained how to get on some state park land here in Brazil that backs up to his place. I've seen up to at least 50 birds in his field numerous times. He says he has seen over a 100 out there before. He thinks the DNR breaks them up on purpose cause by hunting season they are scattered and rarely sees them until season is over. Right now I see them about every other day.
Time is a great teacher, but unfortunately it kills all its pupils.

I hunt just North of Vevay and near Patriot.  There is some great hunting for deer and turkey in Switz. Co.  I can't take anyone on the property that I hunt with a couple of buddies, but if you guys get together I would like to stop by camp and talk turkey.  I have heard that Splinter Ridge is a good place to hunt during the week.  Not sure about the weekends.

b.glass

Thanks Dave! Are you interested?

Mike can you diclose this location?  :D
