I can't quite figure out what this ol' Tom is doing. Is he dusting? or mounting a hen? The barred feathers just don't seem to match up anyway to make sense to me.

Looks like he showing that doe his butt. I would say dusting, there is no grass where he is at.

I would say he is just shaking, either after dusting or just to align his feathers to improve his looks for the ladies.
The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.

Shaking. OK that seems to make the most sense. Either in or after a dusting or just shaking. Got his wings going all over the place.
