While I was here, I thought I'd take in some local tourist atractions, one being the Oceanic Maritime Museum.  Here are a few pictures I thought you might find interesting.

I need to do some more investigating about local woods, but outside of the gate here on base is a local mill that might be able to cut me some riser blanks.  I'm hoping to find on this trip or my next trip, a local bowyer that I could visit for more insight to their traditional way of building bows.

I'm teaching/staying on Hansen, but we travel down to Kadena to do our comissary shopping.  I was suprised to see how much has changed since my year long stint in 96-97.

I was there in the early 60's.  We drove on the right side of the road then.  I'm sure other things have changed, too.  Had an old hickory bow then, maybe a Pearson.

I only spent 4 days there however, I was fortunate enough to be stationed at Clark AB Philippines back in the early 80's. I was given a bow made from acacia wood (I think) and bamboo arrows from one of the natives back up in the mountains behind the base. I don't have it anymore but I sure wish I did!

Was at Camp Shields in 93, maybe some of my brother SeaBees there can hook you up? Couple of cold wobbly pops go a long way!

You guys must be nuts.  I spent 9 months on that chunk of rock in 2005 and I would be perfectly happy to never see it ever again. I spent to much time humping around in the CTA and the NTA to enjoy much of the local attractions though.
