i just got a g/n criter giter and was going to get a new string for it. it has some form of fast flight string and is way thin.  i was wondering if there is a fast flight matirial that is not so thin. if not im going to get the regular b500 string for it(i have never found any flaws in that stuff anyway.)

i like shooting barefinger.  and the thin stuff cuts that out completly

Hey Beaver I've had good luck with the fastflight strings from Three Rivers I believe they are 18 strand. We need to get together and shoot sometime.

sure taht would be great.  im out of town alot but im in every weekend.

450+ is near the same diameter as B-50, but all you have to do is get the string served with a larger size serving, or (worst case scenario) use more strands in the string.

I'll be tied up the next three weekends yard work, then turkey hunting, then one week of being on call,then things should be easier for a few weeks.I would love to be able to shoot with someone.

the question is is it the material or the strand count?  D-97 and 450+ are not to thin, imho. but of course B-500 is thicker. let me know if you need a string.  i have an add in the sponsors classifieds.

They do, and I think factory strings are usually 450 plus.  I like D-97 better, but any fast flite type material will work.

Chad, why is more strands worse case scenario? I don't understand this. Black Widow used 20 strand Fast Flight for years , this would be considered overkill. My Autunm Oak shot great with it. Speed kills in cars and the veins, not with bows.

Because wasted energy is wasted energy.  Why do it?

I'm with chad, just use larger serving or another layer. Or you can get a big fat string if you like to waste bow energy to make noise and hand shock. Steve

An overbuilt string can be noisier, have more vibration, cost you performance, requires "adjusting" nocks for a proper fit (if you bother to get a proper fit), etc.

I'm not a speed freak myself--I've said for years I'd use Dynaflight or 8125 even if they were a little slower than dacron--but there's no real benefit to a way overbuilt string, but there are drawbacks.
