I am heading back down to Ray's in May and the weekend we're going there will unfortunately be a full moon.  As I saw on the last trip down there pigs eye sight isn't all that good until ya get close up.  My question is how they react to light from say a big flash light?  Do they freeze like deer or freak out and run off?  What about the amber lenses do they make any difference in the way they react?

a lot of roo shooters back home use red lenses they often shoot a pig or two while they're out. must be some benefit. don't know what though.

if it is a full moon and clear you might not need one.  the red light works better one aniamals that have been pressured.

If you stay downwind and use a white light you can ease up and touch pigs as long as you stay behind the light. If you stick your hand or a foot out into the beam, they'll freak out

Personally I see no challenge in hunting with a light of any kind.

Yeah Barry... Listen to the Bigster.  Them pigs ain't disappearing.  We're just gonna have to work a little harder and make our own opportunities.  Besides, Do you really want to give ol' Squirrel Bait and Ray that much alone time after dark?  

We asked Ray about night hunting when we were there last week. Apparently it's not legal in SC.

Suits me. There's too many swamp things crawling around down there for me to be out after dark! LOL

All you need is the light on upstairs and you will have no problem with pigs in any condition. Unless they don't exist where you are hunting. Doesn't sound like Ray is short of porkers!

Tim this our RRREEEEETTTTTdemption hunt and man we gotta connect this time.  So just to clear it up...I wasn't talking about shining a light on the while taking a shot (spot lighting) but rather just to be able to see in the swamps after dark so as not to step on a creepy crawly.

Barry the way I like to do it is set up along a well used trail and wait for them to come by. You would be amazed how well you can see on a full moon as long as it is totally dark. Very exciting when a big sounder comes by. LOL

Illegal her in CA too. But if you stay out a little later maybe OK.
Be aware they become a bit different and a lot more bold at night. The only time I have ever been charged by a hog that was not cornered was after dark-it was a very impressive bluff and sent me back to camp to change into clean shorts and talk with Jack!

I always hunt the full moon for hogs, as long as the clouds stay away you won't need a light.
