I am shooting a Predator t/d recurve with a 12 strand D97 string with Hush Puppies installed. 60" AMO. I am drawing 26.5" and pulling right at 55#. The bow shelf is cut 1/8" past center. I have a rubber bow tip protector installed on the lower limb tip. I am shooting 29", 2314 XX75s with 125 gr. points and 5" parabolics. I have the strike plate above the rest slightly built out and therefore I am getting slightly stiff bareshaft readings.

I want to shoot a smaller diameter shaft for better penetration on game and also a shorter shaft(28"). I can take off the built out material behind my strike plate if needed.

My question is this: Would 28", 2117 arrows with 125 grain points be the most correctly spined arrows to shoot with my setup or would a different arrow work better? I like the extra weight of the 2117s as compared to the 2314s and also like the durability of them as well. Tell me what you all think would be the closest ideal arrow for me, please.

Thanks!

Doug

The spine of these arrows are very close .016 apart.  Going down a inch in length would more then likey make your 2117 stiff also.  A 2020 may be a better choice cut at 28"

If ya stay with aluminum and go to 28"s a 2117 will be stiff, a 2020 may be closer but I think ya could get away with a 2018 since ya only draw 26.5"s. Shawn

I ran the numbers through the dynamic spine calculator:

Current arrow

2314   29"  76.4
2117   28.5 77.3
2018   28   70.4
2020   28   73.6

Looks too me like the best fit is the 28 1/2" 2117.

I've got a thread about this calculator on the pow wow.  Download a copy and have fun.

Wow! Gotta love that calculator, man! That is the neatest thing since the proverbial "sliced bread".

According to my inputs, I need to shoot my 28" 2016s with some arrow wraps and keep my strike plate built out.

Arrow output dynamic spine=67.9
Bow-arrow dynamic spine required=67.4

Perfect! Especially since I have some 2016s already cut to 28". I also plan on using wraps too. I really like the small diameter(20/64") of the 2016s also.

Thanks guys!
