Howdy all.

I have a old Kodiak Magnum that could use refinishing.

The riser is mostly green, but has sections that are a tan color.
I was looking it over carefully and it "appears" that the tan color might have been painted on at Bear before finishing.  Also, there are some small tan streaks in the green in different places. (I wish I could attach a photo - sorry)

So, the question is:  What color would it  really be after it's been sanded for refinishing?

Thanks in advance,
USBP

post this in the history section. lots of people over there refinish.

Cherokee Scout

I have seen several green Bears with the off color.
It came from the factory that way. I would guess that if you sand it down the colors will not change.

What you are seeing is called "sap wood". These are sections or areas that were heavy with sap, and the wood did not take the staining process.(at least this is what I have been "learned") It is in the wood itself, and not the finish. They add some nice character to the bows. Nothing wrong with it at all.
