Last post i did on tanto tipping a Bear Razorhead [greenie] it was discussed about possibly single beveling one. Anyone else do this? If so, what angle and how do you tell if you have done a left or right bevel?

Elbow, While it is certainly possible to single bevel a Razorhead I personally do not think that the Razorhead is a preferred design for that treatment. The concept behind the single bevel is to create torque via inclined planes during penetration. I do not know what the forces generated actually are (we don't have huge energies to work with to begin with and most is going into penetration) but the Razorhead is a relatively weak design in relation to twisting forces. Don't misunderstand-Fred's broadhead was brilliantly engineered for successfull mass production, good flight and easy sharpening-but the blade is only minimally attached to the ferrule-pinched and spotwelded at the end of the ferrule and snapped into tiny recesses and minimally welded at the rear of the ferrule. They hold together well when driven straight into flesh and even modest bone but if you torque the blade hard in a vise they tend to come apart.
As for right and left..........if you hold the shaft with broadhead pointing away from you and look down on it the beveled/filed/ground side should be on right if right beveled left if left beveled.

They work really well just the way they are *^).

I made a single bevel out of an old Black Diamond Delta.  Just grind the old edge down to nothing, regrind the single bevel and it makes a great head that weighs in at about 125 - 130 grns.
