Hats for shooting trad.

Ditto on the camo, Tom, Though looks a little too green for the dry grass around them Canberra hills. Where did you get that quiver, I loke the look of it and have been thinking of making one in a similar design.

I wear a boonie hat most of the time. When its hot I wear a bandana under it, kinda nice to pour water on the bandana then put my hat back on...keeps cool.
In cold weather, a thin watchcap fits just right.
I have alot of different boonies though, its kinda whatever I grab on the way out the door or what I find in the truck.
If all else fails, I'll turn my ball cap around backwards.

A fine felt Fedora will work as well now as it did in Fred Bear's days. The key is THE FELT! It should be thin and SOFT. That way it will roll back with the bowstring at full draw. Borsalino still makes a decent soft felt (I have a Borsalino "Traveler"), BUT, I just bought an Akubra "Bushman" that's the best hat I've ever hunting in bar none. The head ban is kangaroo and fits snug to the head - windy days are NO problem. I have a picture of it on my website. It's the one balancing on an elk antler in my logo. I have a stetson that I wear when I flyfish. I'm gonna give it a try, today. I STILL appreciate all the replies. Even if the Stetson does work....I want a few more, now!...lol

I was at wallyworld yesterday and they had the boonie hats on clearance for 1.50 each. I would have walked right by them if it wasnt for this tread. I bought 4 of them and they work great..

I lot will also depend on your draw length and length of your bow. For example, I have a 60" recurve that I can shoot with a short brim baseball cap (Black Widow cap). Can't get away with it with other bows. My prefered cap though is a Jones cap. I also use baseball cap turned backward. - Can't do the cap to the side thing. "[dntthnk]"

I wear caps and turn everything backwards when i shoot. I have an old Vietnam style boonie with a super short brim the works pretty well.
But I find I always shoot more confidently when I know the string absolutely cant hit my hat.

I bend a peak like the peak of a roof in my baseball caps and twist slightly to the side plus wearing the front cocked up more stops string contact. I got this style from my grandfather. They would shove there hats in there back pockets for quick storage and it would be bent in the peak style.

My wife and I are finishing up our felt watch cap design now. We should have a pic soon and will post it for you to see. After all of this,I have some new ideas now. I will see what we can come up with. Any suggestions.
