Steve,
I generally don't care for organ meats...but other than that, I'll pretty much eat anything.

I planned to toss in a cot for myself...I might be able to throw in a second if necessary.

Anybody flying in for April?  I may do that....long drive to do it alone.

I just checked the calendar and we've got NO moon on April 24.  While night hunting would be a hoot, a full moon has the potential to slow things during the day....not always, but possibly.

In my very limited experience of shooting pigs and examining their anatomy, the phrase that I try to keep in mind is "Low and way forward".  Shoot one like a deer and you'll just have a pissed off porker with a piercing.  No meat for the freezer there.  Low and WAAY forward.

Looking forward to chasing some hogs.

Take a look at the "Predator Eats" thread and you'll see a well placed arrow on a hog.

Just making sure that the Dallas/Fort Worth airport is the place that people are flying in to?  There are two airports in Dallas, but I think I got the right one, flights are much cheaper in there.

Steve71

Dfw is the place to fly into.

Steve71..not particular on the food either.  I would love to pitch in and buy some of it if you dont mind.  I like what ever we can cook simple and fast!!

That sounds like a plan to me Steve. If anyone on the April hunt needs a ride from the DFW airport, I can probably take two in my truck. Let me know.

What kinda bows is everyone shooting on the hunt?

I am bringing my Acadian Woods recurve and probably my Charlie Lamb Sunbear. My arrows are Grizzlystik Woodies 500's cut at 29" and Wasp 140gr two blade heads. I will bring some Forgewoods also with 140 gr Treesharks on them.

Crow Creek Black Feather.  52 @ 28.  Shooting 2016s with 125 gr 2 blade Magnus.  Never shot a pig with a bow.  My Magnus heads are very sharp and passed through both deer I shot this year.  Will it be fine for hogs or should I go with 4 blade Magnus heads?

Probably just opened up a can of worms here.

I'm really looking forward to this.  :jumper:

I can do about anything except fish heads or digestive organs. I'll be using my BBO longbow with GT 35/55's and Snuffers. May have some river cane shafts ready by then.

Looks like I need to buy a cot.

No Marine Corps/Full Metal Jacket style wake ups right? LOL!

Widow PLX Osage, 68#@28.

Lefty

I have a cot and will bring it.  I am not a picking eater, so anything is ok with me.  I have some deer sticks I'll bring for snacking and see if the wife will bake up a big mess of cookies.
Haven't decided which bow I'll be shooting, so will probably just bring them both.
I can't wait.  This is going to be fun.  I never killed a hog before.
I will be driving from Iowa if anyone wants to share a ride.

stick_string

Lefty...could I borrow your cot?

Steve71 sounds good on the food!!

I will be bringing my Dryad Windtalker 54# @ 28in.(glass bow blank).  Unlike others on here it is my only bow...and a killer.  I will be shooting 2018s with 125grain BHs (magnus 2 blade, snuffers).

BEn,

I have a cot you can borrow.  Just swing by and pick it up before the hunt.

Not sure what I'll shoot yet. Either the longbow with the mammoth ivory on it, or my 54lb'er.

If there is an open spot on the floor, I can just bring a bedroll. Unless I get a cot by then.

I aint picky about food. Nothing from a grill or a dutch oven has ever been nasty tasting.  Cast iron makes things taste better.  May supply some of my own food, though.

Whats the jackrabbit and rattlesnake population like on your place?  Targets of opportunity are half the fun!

Over&Under

I will be shooting a 58" 53@28 Centaur but will bring my 58" 53@28 Shrew Samaria.  Shooting Vapor Carbonwood 3000's with Snuffers.

Guys, I met Steve at the trad archery range here in Ft. Worth yesterday.  He's a really nice guy.  I think all will enjoy this hunt very much.
