Well it finally came to be , something we have been working on for quite awhile .
The new Raptor Signature 5/16" dia parallel carbon shaft in wood grain.
Specs are as follows 32" shaft that weighs in at 280 grains , that's 8.75 gpi ,Spines at 70# but very spine tolerant. Now here's the neat part , we have a solid carbon /fiberglass rod that fits the inside dia. so that you can custom fit a piece of this rod to the front , behind the insert to the FOC or mass weight you want.
I have been testing with a 29" arrow that has a 125 gr broadhead and an aluminum insert with just enough internal footing to bring it to a 625 grain finished arrow. If you wanted to you could make this arrow over 1000 grains, talk about penetration , small dia. heavy weght.
I shot a nice white tail buck in Nov. with this prototype and now left it with Cutis Kellar in Texas to do a little piggy testing on it during the Texas Sweat , GO Curtis!
Should have them up on the web site soon but feel free to call 541-386-4503 .
The honor of the first dozen goes to Walt Francis.
There are on the way Walt.

Ted,

How would you compare this shaft to a Hammerhead as far as trying to build a heavy arrow for cape buffalo? How spine tolerant is the Raptor Signature compared to a Hammerhead? Can you use brass inserts? Have you seen O.L.'s post on using internal footing with a solid hardwood insert that has a tapered rear? Do you think the insert you use should be tapered at the rear too? What effect do you think the rod insert will have on the spine of the arrow?

I know, I ask too many questions!

Thanks,

I second the above questions and have a few of my own.  This is not a tapered shaft, right.  Also how much are they going to be?

Is this right? The rod lets you get the weight up without effecting the spine like hanging a bunch weight up front would?

And if so how are the rods installed and do you just cut them to the weight/length you want or do they come in different weights and lengths?

How much length is needed for a 100 grains?

I think I'll be interested in trying some of these out.
Time is a great teacher, but unfortunately it kills all its pupils.

Hi Ted,
Thanks for donating the sturgeon skins for the St. Judes bow I am building.  The arrows will get here when they get here; I'm not in any hurry.  Unlike most people, I like to build a bow to fit the arrows rather than adapting the arrows to the bow, it gives me a reason to build a couple of new bows.   :D
For some reason my wife keeps    and telling me that I am a little different.
The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is nowhere as important as being able to place it in the correct spot.

Will get pics ASAP Sal , busy sending out arrows right now, good way to build bows Walt , funny how everyone puts all the emphasis on the bow rather than the arrow.
Mike the rod is installed using epoxy on the area right behind the insert ,this way the rest of the insert is free floating and wont mess with spine or paradox and flex recovery of the shaft.
You could use the rod to stiffen spine as well but that was more an after thought of what we were trying to achieve. The rod comes in 4' sections and we will probably cut them down to 100 and 50 grain sections as time goes on.
Now guys , not to be a spoil sport but with all the questions please feel free to call at the store 541-386-4503 , I am happy to answer all of them .

OK , the wood grain parallels are on the web site now with a photo. Look under the carbon arrows quick link for the Raptor Signature wood grain carbon.
