what is the easiest head to get super sharp?

what, in your opinion, is the easiest head to get sharp with a cuting width of 1.25" and larger?

Zwickey is real easy ... because it's real soft steel. The idea of "easy sharpening" and a reliable head that won't dull just sitting in your quiver, or fold up on bone, runs counter to a relaible killing broadhead. Are you gearing up for turkey? For big game, you're far better off with a head not so wide. Look for something closer to an inch and in a Rockwell hardness of 50 or better. If you have a good sharpening jig, it's not so hard to get 'em sharp until you get up in the mid-50s Rockwell. Consider STOS for an all-around excellent head, and if you really want a wider head, Eclipse is the ticket, about 50 Rockwell. However, its convex shape makes it a wee bit more a challenge to sharpen. As with all of life, "easy" and "best" almost never are a match. dave

that is what i thought too--you cant have the cake and eat it too---or at least that is what i have witnessed so far. right now i am shooting 190 interceptor sharks--gotta be the hardest to sharped, i think. i have been looking into getting some snuffers or the zephyr sasquatch. i like the heavy phantoms and the razor caps, but wish they were at least 1.25" wide.

Easy to sharpen comes in two categories - soft steel or self aligning (3 blades on a flat surface). I like to be able to file sharpen so I like old Bear razor heads, Ace heads, and the like. Any blade is fairly easy to resharpen once you get it dialed in the first time. A hard steel like a Grizzly is easy after the initial time.

Several are available scary sharp out of the package like a couple you mentioned.

Just make sure the one you shoot at game is sharp.

My first response for an easy to sharpen head has long been the STOS but they are only 1 1/8". The Magnus vented heads are just as easy as the STOS and are 1 1/4". The rest of the Magnus glue on line up are nearly as good. All those heads have an excellent factory grind that require not much more than a good touch up to be hunt ready.

Spend some time learning to sharpen heads. It's not that difficult and hunting with sharp heads is paramount to success, IMO...

I really like the new Zwicky No Mercy but takes a bit of work. One of my favorites is the Zepher Sasquatch. Come out of the box sharp enough I guess but I still like to touch em up on my buffing wheel. Will flat scare the hair off your arm.. But nothing flies better IMO than the No Mercy.

The sharpest out of the box blades and easy to resharpen I have used are German Kinetics but they are only 1 1/8" wide. Markus is coming out with a 1 1/2" wide head that I can't wait to try.

I find the Wensel Woodsmans and Snuffers really easy to sharpen. I use a belt sander with 150 grit paper to set the initial angles and then use a piece of plate glass and progressively finer grit sandpaper down to 2,000 to hone. I finish off on a ceramic strop using Aluminum Oxide powder as a polishing agent.

Once sharpened, I touch them up every time before I head out on a hunt by simply stropping them to bring the edge back up to scary sharp.
