Any one have one of the new Excel risers from Hoyt I was thinking of the 21" for the price ($180) it looks to be one of the best ILF risers out there if you have if I could get your thoughts on them and pics of your set up thanks,Jared<><

Coyote2, i was wondering the same thing myself.  But i've decided to stick with my plans to get a quinn metal riser bow.  I think hte excell may not be heavy-duty enough for what i want, from what i heard from people who know a lot about the ilf bows, it needs to be enough riser there to support the heavier poundage..... but i'm just geussing.

I have a 23" Excel riser. It is a great value. And I've shot some of the high end stuff. Unless you are one of the few people who competes at a world level in FITA I don't think the few things they cut cost on will make much difference. It shoots just as well as a riser that costs several times more. It just doesn't have some of the extra machined things.

And, it handles heavy limbs just fine. I'm shooting custom Samick Exteme limbs that pull 63-64 at 29". The official word from Hoyt is the riser was designed to pass all the stress and destruction protocol they require. One of Hoyt's top engineers (goes by GT on forums, can't think of his name right now) said it will handle any weight ILF limbs made.

How does it balance when held in an open hand? Is it top heavy trying to tilt toward you or bottom heavy just sitting there nice and straight?

The riser is top heavy. But it is fairly lightweight so it doesn't take much weight to get it to sit vertical. I have a small 4-5 oz. counterweight on it and it is almost perfect.

Str8shooter,Are you shooting it with a rest and plunger or off the shelf? also could you post some pics

I'm shooting mine off an NAP CenterRest. Elevated rest, no plunger. Shoots very well. I'm thinking of setting it up to shoot off the shoot because some competitions classify it as Recurve Unaided or even into compound classes :-(

I just bought two of these risers in the 21" configuration for my 7 year old twin daughters.
I was searching for a light mass weight metal riser that accepted ILF limbs.  The Hoyt Excell seams like the perfect fit.

These risers came highly recommended by their archery coach.

Now I'm looking for two sets of ILF limbs in the 18 to 20 pound draw range.  Any suggestions where I could locate two sets of ILF limbs?
