If you guys could choose any outfitter regardless of location or price which one would it be for elk?

overbo

Don't know if he's still around but Mick Chaple from NM had a very impressive elk hunt. Also heard you get into unit 10 in Arizon that the only problem you have killing a big bull is finding one w/ all his horns

aromakr

What ever outfitter you choose, spend a lot of time researching him, talk to previous clients not just one or two as many as you can find. There are alot of good ones out there and alot of ripoff outfitters also. Be safe and check them out.

Don't need a guide but if I did, I'd pick Fred Eichler also. I would think it would be a fun and productive hunt.

You can't go wrong with Full Draw Outfitters (Fred Eichler).

I have hunted there in the past and he runs a FUN camp.  Good times.

You will never regret a trip to Trinidad.

Thanks guys for the info. Would like to go with someone experienced one time and learn. Been a few times on my on and burnt once by an outfitter. Chasin elk is different from our whitetail chasin.

You'll notice the "luckiest" elk hunters have worn out boots.

I rifle hunted with Fred last fall with my dad. Probably the hardest working group of guides I have ever hunted with. You will definitely laugh your $$$ off there. Tons of elk and great food too.

Good luck

overbo, Mick is still around He does do a heck of a hunt, I hunted with him in 99.  Joe

Timberline Outfitters AZ NM Perry and Brenda Hunsaker they specialize in archery elk. I've taken 3 over the last few years and had more oppertunities than 1 man should be allowed. You won't be disappointed.

If your serious about the $$$ no issue comment. White Mountain Apache Reservation in NM has biggest elk on earth and run a fantastic hunt. Runs $10,000 to $20,000.00. All free ranging wild elk from a heard that is managed to optimum.

The hunt described at the linked website shown below is about the same price and the same quality of animals as the White Mountain Apache Reservation hunt -- probably a little better. It is run by the Acoma Pueblo and is about 50 miles west of Albuquerque, NM. They have what may be the best archery elk hunts in the nation. The main problem is getting close enough to get a shot with a bow and arrow. Most of the bow hunters use compound bows and average 50 yard shots. Of course, those guys aren't near the hunters that we TradGangers are!    :archer:

I interviewed quite a few outfitters recently and was very impressed with Tony from Continental Divide Outfitters in Montana. He is a trad shooter, didn't blink an eye when I said I would be hunting with my recurve, and absolutely wanted my wife to hunt with him, no problem. Others were not so enthusiastic with either probability.

Allan,

Thats Ross Johnson's old area. He hunted the Acoma for years and showed the Indian Guides how to do it. They then kicked his a$$ out and started doing it themselves. Ross died last year. A guy I know killed a couple 380's and a 405 in that area with Ross. Good area.
