Is there any hog hunting near Glynco, GA?  Any Trad Gangers nearby?  Looks like I will be spending about 4 months there starting this spring.

There is hunting, good hunting. But soon as turky season is over, no more hunting in the WMA. Ray Hammond has a place about an hour north. Great hunting. Contact him you will not regret it.

I'm a graduate of good ole Glynco Club Fed.  The place is crawling with Bambies, little ones under a hundred pounds.  They're everywhere at dusk!

As for hogs; yup-yup they're there, but seek out private land away from Club Fed.  If you cruise the back roads you'll find many Bubba Home-grown B-B-Que's in the country.  I got the distinct notion that they didn't raise their hogs for grillin, but rather just shot em from the swamps and straight to the grill.  

I hope you have a different experience at Club Fed than I.  I didn't have a whole lot of free time in my 18 weeks there.  I recall a 6 1/2 day weekly schedule for most of the time I was there.  Not much time to look for porkers....but I did spend a fair amount of time running P/T in the swamps.  Saw sign but no actual piggies....

Suggest you take a car/truck for transportation and a medium duty fishing pole, as there's some fine fishing in the causeway nearby.  Talk with the staff (kitchen staff, maintance staff, etc.).  These are just blue collar folks that live in the area and know where to go.  Most students at Club Fed don't communicate much with the staff.  They miss out on a great resource.

Don't forget the Avon Skin So Soft for the No-seeums.  They'll eat you alive.

I'll be a student.  I heard that I will have most weekends off but we'll see.  Last time in Georgia I went hunting on Fort Stewart but guessing which areas will be open is a pain.

It will be for Federal Protective Service.  I've tried to bring a bow with me every time the army sent me someplace.  Not sure on the rules yet either but I would mail my stuff someplace if I had to.

I did the border patrol academy down there in late '94 early '95 (class 295)

Best paid fat farm I've ever been to.... The BP academy was tougher than Marine boot camp but I was a few years older and a little heavier.  By the time I graduated, I was running 3 miles faster than I did at the end of marine boot camp and I'd lost 26 pounds.  Wish I'd stayed in but that's another story.

I don't recall any rules against weapons on base but there may have been.  I didn't try to take any myself.  I sure do wish I'd taken my truck though.  19 weeks without transportation kinds sucked.  Of course, as others said, there isn't a lot of free time to be had unless you are a total brainiac and can absorb everything in the classroom.  We did have all the weekends and federal holidays free to do what we wanted.  If I were in your shoes, I'd take a vehicle (even though they told us we shouldn't) and I'd take my bow and fishing pole too.  The bow might end up stored in the truck but I could live with that.

yep, i was down there at fletc in '96 and it seems the 6 1/2 day weeks were about right as i remember it.
nice people, good food, sure wish i hadn't been so busy that way i could have hunted down there.

Thanks for the insights fellas.  I will have no gap between the army and the Fletc so no worries about being in shape.  I will have to do a little more study on the schedule.

You may be required to store it and arrows at the armory  (leave it at front gate).

I did my FLETC in Artesia, NM so I can't help you with Glyncoe but you should have some free time on the weekends/holidays.
