Well...I have a decision to make. My wife is from Montana and we are both wanting to move back up to that area( Western Montana). We also like the looks of Idaho but don't know much about the state. I need to live near a larger city to work in the type of medical field I enjoy.

So which would you choose? Montana or Idaho and why? Taxes, hunting land... whatever you got.

It will be a couple of years so you have time to think out your answer!

I came from nothing and I brought it with me.

This is a great time to buy a place or property in either place, a bad time to find work!

I retired back home to Kalispell after 30 years with the fed gov.  Had to leave home to get work!

Both Western Montana and Northern Idaho are my favorite climates with Mountains, clear lakes and streams and truly 4 seasons.

The taxes are probably about the same. Montana has state income tax only, Idaho has mixed income and slaes tax.  Property taxes depend on the county - higher in more urban or larger poulated counties.

Hunting and fishing is still good, but nowhere near like is was 20 years ago.

I know some great folk in Traditional Bowhunters of both Idaho and Montana so you won't have trouble finding kindred spirits.

I don't think you can go wrong with either choice. I think you would love it here in the Coeur D' Alene area. Taxes aren't bad we have hospitals and Spokane if you needed to work there is a short drive. Also we have the most public land in the lower 48. Great spring turkey hunting, spring bear, you can bait, hound hunt and trap. Good whitetail and elk hunting. You can drive south and hunt mule deer and antelope. Lots more to do than I can type(slow typer). Good luck with your decision

Are you gonna have a spare room?

Well i'm glad we narrowed it down to two good choices.

Just hope I can get used to the change in climate. If my wife can handle it though I bet I can.

Not too worried about the job prospect, healthcare isn't suffering.

Jesse - are you going to go to the Mountain Man Trade show at the Cour D'Alene Fairgrounds February 21?

I will be a trader there with primitive bows and arrows.  It is a neat theme show with traders peddling goods from the Fur Rendezvous era.
