I own a 58",49# Super Shrew Deluxe in Shadow grey. I just ordered the same bow in 60#'s but I have time to change my mind and am thinking i may want something a bit different. Is the bow bolt worth it and what is the deal with carbon and foam? What would you get? Anyone have pics of the different options? I can't seem to make up my mind with so many choices!

I have a 2 piece shrew classic deluxe.

I would not have a bow that is not a takedown. You have options then. I travel on my motorcycle lots and having a bow that is smaller just makes sense.

As far as the other things I am not sure.

Takedown is my only concern when buying a bow.

Personally I would go with the bow bolt take down option for the transportability.

When I do order a Shrew I am going to go with a 54" Classic Hunter, foam carbon limbs, bow bolt, cut to center.

Right now I have a Gold on order, with all the options above, for my son except his will be 58". He hit a growth spurt since I first placed the order and now has a 28" draw length.

I would also shoot Gregg an email. He really knows his stuff and will set you up right.

Also I would get in contact with Allen (Amar911). He has lots of good information and knowledge to pass along.

i have a 56" super shrew deluxe T/D
and i have a Classic hunter on order for a bit of a shorter bow also with take down (bow-bolt) worth every penny in my opinion and if you travel on airlines with your bows i would strongly consider  the take down

do a search for shrews here on the POWWOW there have been a lot of threads lately with some good info

I haven't really thought about it, but if I was gonna order one........It would be a 56" lil favorite with foam core and black glass and midnight dymondwood riser cut to center.  I would dubb her  "DARKNESS".  Not that I have really thought about it.  :rolleyes:

Yup I seem to like the recurves better myself right now.  I think my next one will be a 56" Lil Favorite.

Gregg, shame on you trying to get Tim excited...you know that bow is 50#@ 30" so it's too light for him...    

I can't make it to K-zoo but I'll take that 56" lil fav.  50@30" is just what I would order.

One positive aspect of the long wait for a new Shrew is that you have nearly a year to change your mind. Just send Ron the $100 deposit and take your time figuring out which Shrew for you! On my first Classic Hunter, I changed design options (including from Super Shrew) so often I expected Ron to tell me I wasn't worth it. But he was absolutely great throughout. Probably used to it, like a kid in an ice cream shop unable to decide which flavor!          

Is there a Laminate over the carbon or are the limbs black with the carbon option?

How long have there been foam cores on the bows? What exactly is the reason behind the foam? Does it make the bow lighter? Help in performance?

I just love how my Super Shrew Deluxe shoots now, I just want to make sure I get a bow that shoots as sweet.

I have decided to go with the bow bolt after reading all of your reviews, so at least that is out of the way! I am now leaning toward the Zebra wood as well, anyone have any pics of a Zebra wood shrew?

Greg -- Your choice of Zebra wood is a good one. It should be beautiful. If you want to get a Bow Bolt (which I highly recommend for the same reasons stated by others), you will want to check with Gregg Coffey to see what he recommends for strength. I just sent my foam core Classic Hunter (which is the first foam core Shrew built) back to Gregg so he could show it at Kalamazoo. It is wonderful. The foam cores in the limbs are very stable and consistent and tend to add some smoothness and a little speed to the bow. The carbon will add more speed to the longbows without sacrificing the other great characteristics of those bows. Carbon backing won't work well on low to mid poundage recurve limbs like on the Scout and Lil Favorite. But the recurves are faster anyway, so it is really not a big deal to eliminate carbon as a recurve option. I like both the Shrew recurves and the longbows and have both. I do prefer the short riser Shrews -- the Classic Hunter and the Lil Favorite -- for a number of reasons. I have on order a foam/carbon Classic Hunter and a foam core Lil Favorite, both 56" and both with Bow Bolts, that will be built in July. The carbon backs on the bows are typically covered with fiberglass, but they can also be covered with exotic hardwood veneers that look really great. The veneers are just finished with a poly coating, not fiberglass, so there is an argument that they might not be quite as durable; however, basically the same protective coating is used with snakeskin covered limbs and with hardwood risers, and most people do not complain about their durability. I plan to get the hardwood veneers on my foam/carbon longbow limbs, but I also like Wally's idea of an all black bow. It would be the perfect pop up blind bow.

Wally -- I think that 56" Lil Favorite that Ron and Gregg will have at Kalamazoo is a one piece, if that makes any difference to you. I imagine Ron and Gregg are going to have a difficult time keeping the Shrews on display at Kalamazoo because people will be buying them so fast and taking them home. Just don't take off with the two bows of mine that will be there on display (a 56" Classic Hunter one piece with Texas ebony/black phenolic riser and macasser ebony veneered foam core limbs, and a 54" Lil Favorite one piece with brown Dymondwood/black phenolic riser and curly birch veneered actionboo core limbs)!!!      Bow Bolts would be nice, but by this summer I will have three Shrews with Bow Bolts, so I will happily deal with the "burden"     of a few one piece models.

I'm still not sure if i want foam or carbon. I have to see if I can get Zebra with the bow bolt though. I should really just order a few different ones! Hahaha.
